Hi guys, I'm considering buying a 2008 3 series 320d 22k miles though it has a suspected head gasket failure. Hence the price of £3.5k

I'm just wondering how 'easy' it is to do?

I have done it many times with my classic mini so know the basics but as it's a modern engine... I'm not so sure how straight forward it will be.

Thanks

Just as easy mate... Maybe the worse-case-scenario is the sockets u use matey - In my own experience I needed long-reach sockets and the thin type HTH ;)

Hmmm in the mean time I've read about the double overhead cam being a nightmare to get the timing right...

Obviously in the old mini the cam is in the block so timing isn't an issue.

I thought the timing wouldn't be touched but if the cams are in the head, could they be knocked by accident say and then throw out the timing?

Plus also read that since the block is alluminium and head studs are steel, if the block overheated it could warp and cause a problem when torquing the head back down...

Cheers
