Is There A Cambelt To Change On E46 325Ti Compact Engine (02 Plate)?

Featured Replies

Only bought on 23 December-so haven't had much time to research. New BMW member-although I did have an E30 320i a couple of years ago.

Assistance much appreciated & Merry Christmas to all!

Thanks

chain driven

please remember that chains can stretch and the tensioners can go

I had a golf vr6 chain driven but the tensioners went the chain jumped and the engine was wrecked

hello to the forum'

chain driven it is.

they tend to last very long if you keep on the regular oil changes with the optimum required grade of oil.

all the best & merry x-mas to you too Malcolm :P

Chain driven like what everyone else has said already

Like dilly said, they last ages on a BMW. Very rarely will they go wrong. NO reason what so ever to change on an '02 vehicle

Enjoy it as it is matey

Chain will be good for 250000 miles keep on top of the tensioners and frequent oil changes oh yeh welcome to the forum!!!

Welcome, Malcolm, and a Happy New Year to you. All good news in reply to your enquiry! For a long long time, I've always tried to favour cars with a timing chain rather than a belt -- right back to the 1980's, in fact, when I was a Manta Maniac, which rather ages me, lol! I have to say, I have never, never understood why so many manufacturers went over to belts, unless its to give garages a lot more work!
