Hello everyone, I’ve joined the forum because I’m planning
to buy my first BMW, a 320d M Sport and would like to hear from those who
actually own them.

I previously had an Sri Vectra CDTi 150 and loved the car
but unfortunately it has recently been written off by a crazy drunken woman (it
was parked up outside my grans and she ran into it while racing another car!) -
I need to get back on the road and have always liked BMW’s.

I’m looking for an M Sport 320d probably around the 100k
mark with a budget of around 6-7k max, after reading up on the car and its issues
I’d like to get the M47T2 (163bhp) with a decent spec if possible (I’m not
afraid to try at auction either as long as the service history is complete) – Just
interested to know what experiences you guys have had with this motor as I’ve
read a lot of stuff about people removing the swirl flaps (even though these
are the new e90 design), DMF failures, DPF problems, Turbo failures etc, etc so
don’t want to end up with a lemon!

I can’t help but think some of the DMF issues might be
experienced by those who remap as I know this engine remaps easily to about
200bhp at stage 1, I know a lot of people experiencing issues with the CDTi 150
had it mapped (they go up to about 180-190bhp) but I never did that with mine
as I was worried about putting extra strain on the other components.

The CDTi 150 has its fair share off issues and a quick Google
will reveal post after post of people experiencing various problems – I had to
replace the Alternator, EGR valve and inlet manifold on mine (all with no
warranty) but other than that, the car was fantastic and trouble free so I try
not to let the nightmare experiences of some people put me off too much as I
guess all cars will have their fair share of issues!

I’m planning to get a 320d and keep it for about a year before
changing it as I do about 15-20k per year with work – how has your general
ownership been and have you had many issues? Also do you guys recommend paying for a
warranty and roughly how much do you recon this is (I did an online quote and
it came in at £560 for a year) Thanks for reading through my waffle!

Welcome to the forum, I had a 2006 E90 320d SE a couple of years ago and ran it for about 10k without any issues.

If I had of kept the car I would have had the swirl flaps blanked off, I think the kit can be bought from a company called PMW.

I believe the 2005-2007 163bhp E90 didn't have a DPF so you don't have to worry about that, I had mine remapped to about 200bhp/295lbft which I believe is a safe state of tune and a lot of people who have the later model with the DPF get it removed with a remap as a preventative measure.

Also I bought non-runflat Bridgestone's which drastically improved the ride over the runflat version of the tyre plus if you have the M-sport this is even more important, the non-runflats were about 35 pounds per tyre cheaper.

Welcome Adam, enjoy the forum

Hi & welcome to the club, had my 320CD M sport for around 6 months with no problems, it's an 04 plate, did the swirl flaps after a week or so, no other issues with it, I only use Shell V power nitro + & it's running like a dream.
