2005 E91 320D - Newly Acquired.... Here Comes The Questions!

So I have had my BMW for 3 days now.... And I !Removed! love it!! Such a solid drive and it eats up the miles (I do 500 per week) with ease! I just have a few questions .......

1. The LCD screen between the dials (the bottom one) is not working, is this a fuse possibly or do I need to go to my local Dealer? The top screen works with no issues...

2. I seem to have the sensor for rain/auto lights on the windscreen but the options are not there. Is it possible to add the switches to activate or not that easy?

3. I want to add power fold mirrors, is this the case of adding the mirrors and switch and a relay to make this happen? It was that easy with my Ford Mondeo.....

4. Does anybody know of any BMW specific breakers in the south that I could go raid for some interior bits (a few of mine are faded and I'd like to update them if possible)

Any help with these questions would be much appreciated, I'm loving the car and will be detailing it very soon, giving it a machine polish and really bringing the colour out! Pics will follow when this happens but for now here she is .......

thanks

Rich

My question, was it bought from a dealer? If yes then they should deal with these issues as of tomorrow ;)

yours:

  1. Is it permanently blank?
  2. Do you have the Owners manual? If not then - With the ignition key in position 1 or higher, move the lever to position 1.The wipers travel once across the windshield, regardless of the weather. You can leave the lever permanently in position 1. It is then only necessary to activate the rain sensor when the ignition key in position 1 or higher. Activate by briefly turning rotary
dial 5. To adjust the sensitivity of the rain sensor: turn rotary dial 5. To deactivate the rain sensor: put lever in position 0.
Turn the rain sensor off in automatic car washes. Failure to do so could result in damage caused by undesired wiper activation.
  3. Yes.

HTH ;)

Hi Dabsy

Thanks for the help, yes it was bought from a car dealer (not BMW) so will give them a call ASAP. And yes the screen is blank all the time.

The power fold is a great option so off to eBay I go.

The wipers I will have a play with when I get a chance.

Thanks again

Rich

There is a dashboard "Easter-Egg" that you can access via a menu, this turns every light/indicator on in the dash in a sequence with lovely hypnotic effect... Merely to test the bulbs etc. As you cannot SEE anything there then it'll be nigh on impossible to try out. Do you have a friend with a similar BMW so you can swap clocks for a short time?

  • 3 weeks later...
  • 1 month later...

Been a while since I have been on here due to being busy with work. Gave the car a really good detail and a machine polish too... Took 7 hours in total!

Seeing as mine is an SE model I don't think the power folds are a simple plug and play so have given up on these. However I have turned my attention to fitting a blue tooth iPhone module under the arm rest, and have already acquired the cradle, just need to source the snap in adapter for my iPhone 4S. Also it will be going in to a BMW specialist to check out the dash problem and also to sort out a lack of turbo problem that has just happened.

Also going to be getting the windows tinted to 20% and also the roof wrapped in carbon fibre effect to help protect from bird !Removed!.

Also the MOTis due in October and I really need to get all the brakes changed...... I do over 500 miles a week for work, so what do you guys think would be best to go for? Pagid, Brembo??

Forgot to say I added rear LED lights to the rear, just the outer ones and it has sent all the indicators going mad. How can I rectify this? Do they need coding to the car?

Thanks in advance

Rich

Rear lights... Canbus errors, the computer (LCM) will not recognise them if they're not error-free LED's !

Stick with Brembo ;)

Carbon wrap??? What colour is the car?

Wiring loom is there for all mirror types, WCM module needs upgrading.

Thanks Jack, as for the lights, they are LCI lights so does the LCM need updating?

Found a full set of Brembos and pads from apmotorstore for £230.... Will put them on order when I get back off hols.

The car is sparkling graphite in colour and the carbon wrap is just protect the roof..... Where I work is near loads of seagulls and don't want the paint damaged.

When you say WCM, what do you mean? Is it an easy upgrade as I really like power fold mirrors

Thanks

Rich
