  1. I reckon uve probably got most of it covered, but really e39s aren't that bad,

Jus to let u know the red dot doesn't necessarily mean it's been clocked, it's a tamper light

And can come on when control modules have been replaced with second hand parts.

I've fitted second hand lcm's (light control modules) in the past and because their allocated to chassis number

Even when programmed into a different car it doesn't overwrite the chassis number of the old vehicle hence

    The tamper light illuminating.

Good luck with the search I'm sure you won't be disappointed with an e39

  2. Sounds weird, basically cylinders 1,2 & 3 are your bank 1

And 4,5 & 6 are bank 2, so can understand the O2 sensor on bank 1

Picking up a fault if you have a miss on 1 & 3, but bank 2 readings should be ok

Sensor 2 is just a reading sensor as sensor 1 on each bank is the signal sensor.

Guess if uve done the plugs and coils, and you're getting a spark through the plugs

And no air leaks, ull need to compression test the cylinders and check the fueling side ie injectors

  3. Yes solid beep means malfunction, if you turn ignition

On but don't start it and stick it in reverse then put your ear to each of

The sensors u should hear a ticking noise from each of the sensors. If u can't then it's

Probably a faulty sensor, if that fails get it plugged in to a diagnostic machine and read.

I've replaced several sensors on e46s.

    Hope that's some help

  4. No problem, you can buy chain and guides for about £300 from

Bmw main dealer, there are a few pattern kits out there a bit cheaper

But personally something as important as that I'd go genuine.

It is fairly straight forward to do, I normally drop complete exhaust, heatshields and prop shaft

Take the gearbox off the back, then disconnected fuel lines, water hoses and wiring loom from ecu box leaving all wires connected

At engine, degas air con and remove pipes, unbolt the 2 engine mount nuts and engine pretty much lifts out.

Once it's on the deck it's a case of striping the back to get to chain.

I'd be inclined to replace all chains, sprockets, guides and tensioner.

  5. Is it a metallic noise? If so may be worth listening towards the back of engine (nearest bulkhead)

The 320d is notorious for timing chain failure which is on the back of engine on those.

If you catch it early it will save trashing the cylinder head, only down side is the engine has to come out completely to

    Replace the chain and guides.

I have replaced several over the last year

  6. Have recently fitted pagid discs and pads on a 530d and the guy warped them in a few weeks

Fitted the same again under warranty for him, told him to take it easy and bed them in properly

    And had no problems since.

  7. Is the abs light on as well? I believe the speedo and mpg gauge get their signal

Through the near side rear abs sensor, if there's no abs or traction lights on it may

Be a fault with the connection on the back of instrument cluster or faulty gauge itself.

I don't think these codes would put it into limp mode, so may be worth getting it read.
