Alpina?? Please Enlighten Me
Hi guys Im currently looking at e60 530d's and have come across one with alpina badge on the front, back and on the rear armrest but the car is advertised as a bmw 530d. obviously ive emailed the guy to find out if its just been re-badged and is in fact a standard bmw. this is the first alpina ive come across and was wondering whats the difference and which is better? or is it a matter of preference? thanks Gazz

Calling All Pre-Lci E60 520D/525D/530D Owners! Advice Please
Hi all I'm looking at buying a pre-LCI 5 series (E60) and I'm chasing my tail trying to decide which engine to go for. I do a fair amount of miles (my commute is 46 mile round trip plus family days out etc) so economy is handy which was steering me towards the 520d but I will be using it to tow a large caravan so I then leaned more towards the 525d. Then I was told there's not a lot of difference in mpg between the 2.5 and the 3.0 so I've been looking at those. In fact I test drove one today and its fair to say I'm smitten! Very nice to drive and plenty of power! So my question Is this.... What mpg are you guys getting out of yours? What are you getting General nipping about and what are you getting on long runs? And if anyone has experience towing with them then great! Also I've been told that the 2.5d is a terrible engine (the guy who told me this described it as the worst bmw have made??) And he seemed to think there is a big problem with the timing chain? Seeing as I've not been able to find anything to support this (in fact all I can find is how great they are!) I'm guessing the guy is talking out of his backside? I'd just like to put it to the board though and see what your opinions are Thanks in advance Gazz

Hi All!
Hi all! Just to introduce myself I'm Gazz, currently living in the west Midlands near Wolverhampton, and looking to buy my first bmw! I'm looking at the 5 series E60 but having quite decided which engine I'm setting my sites at yet. I took a 530d for a spin today and was very impressed! And as I will be towing a large caravan when on my jollies I could quite easily talk myself into the 3 litre, although in reality I'd probably be wiser going for the 2.5 or maybe even the 2.0. Especially as I have a 46 mile round trip to commute which is mainly motorway so a good mpg return is very handy! But that's partly why I'm here, to pick your brains and speak to you guys that have experience with these beasts and find out what I'm better going for and what to look out for with them! I'm off for a nose around the forum now to see what info I can find meanwhile any advice would be very much appreciated! Thanks Gazz
