  1. Hi all hope everyone had a great new year!!!

I have an annoying issue with my e38 735i

She starts and runs perfect bit of a tap some times (think lifter)

But the problem I need help with is the gear changing

When driving along 90% of the time she is smooth and perfect but now and then when I floor it or when crawling at low speed and put foot down she seems to drop down and all I can describe it as is hesitate and then when she hits the gear she wants its a hard jolt and loud bang/clonk!!

She don't do it all the time but when she does it sounds worrieing just hoping its not something expensive!!

Anyone else experienced this???? She just don't seem to know what gear she wants some times and don't feel like a smooth bmw should do

Any advice or help be great

    The car is a

    Bmw e38

    735i v8

    1999 (T)

    Thanks in advance

    Sam

  2. Hi all I have an e38 735i

What other BMW alloys will fit and look good ???

I seen some (don't have a go if I get this wrong) bmw mv2 alloys and love the look of the wheel but would they look right on an e38 if not what wheels would ????

Here's a pic of the ones I have on mine now

  3. Hi all I filled the tank and it's now on a millimetre under 3/4 of a tank and I done a 177.9 mile trip today mostly motorway at 70mph

Is this normal fuel usage and mpg as loads of people on Facebook are disagreeing ????

    It's a e39 530i sport

    2001

    Nearly 147000 miles

  4. Hi all last few days noticed my e39 530i seemed a bit sluggish on the gearbox

When I pull off it seems to be ok and then it changes up through the box and just seems to get up to top gear to quick and then will drop down and up and down again and feels like it's holding back a bit??

    Any ideas?????

  5. Yes sounds like a timing chain fault. Any lack of performance or lights on dash?

    Where you based about mate?

No lights on dash seems to run absolutely fine changed the oil and filter today

Have noticed last few days she seems to be in to higher gear as sluggish and seems to skip up and down gears a bit but that's another story

Engine apart from rattle seems fine

    Don't get hot

Getting 125 miles to quarter of a tank still returning 25mpg

    She don't get hot

  6. Hi all got a

    E39 530i auto

    2001

    147000 miles

Just noticed today a rattle when you tap accelerator and let off again

Put ear as close to hot engine as could get it lol and seemed to be coming from black cover that covers cam???

Here is a video not very good but you will get the point.

Just bit worried timing chain has come loose?????

    Thanks

  7. You're going to need to give us more info.

You're ganna need to identify the direction of the vibration which shouldn't be too difficult to do

    Daz

Sound as if coming from rear of car backseat / start of boot area

  8. Hi all

    I have a e39 530i

Now when sat at idle and completely quiet I can hear an intermittent vibrate / buzzing noise as if a phone was on vibrate mode and put somewhere in the car

    Any ideas???

    Cheers

  12. As some of you know I posted up help with aux belts.

Well I picked some new belts today and called the mobile mechanic I use for bigger jobs normally but as the belts were squeeking away and I can't afford to wait for the correct fan removal tool off ebay I got him to tackle the job.

Good job really as this was state of the belt

  13. Its a recognised issue on ebay that their make/model/year parts guides are a bit iffy. Your best bet is to phone one of the main parts suppliers with you reg. number, one of the bigger guys on ebay will be fine. They will get exact model from the reg., and if there were to be any issues, they would be liable to replace/refund.

Thanks mate I shall get onto it

  14. Hi all

Been noticing a slight burning il smell when stop the car and turn her off

I have noticed a sligh drip of oil from the rocker gasket I presume and it's going onto the exhaust heat shield and I gather that's why I am getting burnt oil smell

    20140604_141932_zps3c085131.jpg

Now I have looked on ebay and seems to be a lot of choices of gasket

Can anyone link me to the right one for my

    Bmw

    E39

    530i

    Petrol

    2001

    Thanks in advance

  15. Hey Sam.

The default for your engine is a "Panel Filter" over a cone. They work just as good in my experience and do indeed bring out that straight-six raw. Dabsy sold me his Piper-Cross one for my 728i (Similar engine) and yes, i was impressed.

Failing that, if you WANT the cone, you'll need to fork out the price of a 57i K&N system. Why? Because any thing else in my opinion will be naff. You'll be able to easily pick up a 57i kit MADE for your E39 with the brackets already included. Brackets are important as you do away with your air-box...

    Daz

    Cheers daz

So a performance panel filter replacement will still give that throaty straight six raw etc???

Spotted this just now not sure if any good as you said k&n only if you was to go for one

(Obviously the one for the 530)
