  1. Hi Daz I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it may be a case of the engine suffering a hydraulic lock (this is where the engine sucks up the water through the inlet and when all the valves are closed the piston comes up and hits the water in the cylinder....as water cannot be compressed it then bends the con-rod). An easy way to check this would be to carry out a compression test on the cylinders and if one (or more) is low then this is the situation. However, I have dealt with many water ingestion faults over the years and it is something that the insurance company will pay out for if you have comprehensive cover so worth having it checked first and then maybe contact your insurance company. Let us know how you get on Cheers, Trevor
  2. Hi Colin...welcome to the Forum Good to have you onboard Cheers, Trevor
  3. Hi Colin....welcome to the Forum As Greydog has mentioned, it is very difficult to pinpoint the exact issue without carrying out a scan on the ECU memory to see what faults are stored or even looking at the live data when the fault occurs to narrow down the possible causes. My first thoughts are fuel pressure dipping slightly but again, live data would show this occurring. Let us know what you find out Cheers, Trevor
  4. Hi Kevin....welcome to the Forum She certainly looks in great condition. I also believe that the pre 2000 cars were made especially well and avoided most of the faults that affect the later cars. You shouldn't have too many issues with it....hopefully! Cheers, Trevor
  5. and to you Dave....have a great Christmas and thanks for all you have done this year for the Forum. Cheers, Trevor
  6. Sorry, never tried it but let us know what its like if you try it yourself, cheers
  7. Hi Geoff....welcome to the Club Good to have you onboard Cheers, Trevor
  8. Hi Kevin....welcome to the Forum As Dave has already stated....hopefully you won't be asking for help for some time yet :-) Cheers. Trevor
  9. Hi Joe....welcome to the Club I believe you can see the model code printed on the boot struts (if fitted) but otherwise, as Greydog has suggested, fire up realoem and trace it through there. Not sure about powering off the audio when locking the car but as for the headlamps...Greydog has once again hit the nail on the head....bulbs are certainly the best way forward in the short term Cheers, Trevor
  10. Greydog I concur...have save may a battery where it's just sulphated and once conditioned its been as good as gold. I use the DataTool charger that I got with my motorbike and can highly recommend that and the Ctek as well
  11. Hi Scott....welcome to the Forum Sorry I can't help you with your question...not too 'au fait' with iPhones and the like. Hopefully someone will have the answer for you though Good to have you onboard Cheers, Trevor
  12. Hi Scott...welcome to the Forum Looking forward to seeing some pics as well Good to have you onboard Cheers, Trevor
  13. Hi and welcome to the Forum I would agree with Greydog on his opinion and I sometimes think it is an idea to float it on eBay and put a high reserve on it to gauge interest and see where it goes. Let us know how you get on with it all and add some piccies if you like Cheers, Trevor
  14. BMW can suffer from a whole range of maladies if the battery is allowed to go too flat and then recovers once it is recharged to a suitable level. However, worth keeping an eye on any problems cropping up, could be battery related. Are you referring to your profile to change the model or are you referring to actually changing the car to a facelift model?
  15. Hi Malcolm....welcome to the Forum Usually, a beeping noise is accompanied by a warning light of some description, albeit seatbelt, door open, low fluids. Wouldn't worry about a puff of smoke on start up especially if it has been laid up for a while. Let us know what else transpires with the beeping noise Cheers, Trevor
  16. Lol...in the olden days, we would drill a few holes into the exhaust to make it sound louder...sadly not the case now. Hopefully someone with an X6M will come up with a suitable answer.
  17. Hi Mark Unfortunately, you get a limited time to edit posts and they cannot be deleted but they can be hidden if necessary. Is there something in particular you have in mind?
  18. Hi Johnny...welcome to the Forum Unfortunately, that is one down side to rear wheel drive cars....no weight over the driving wheels. Unless you have the X-Drive then it is a case of finding the best tyres to grip in icy conditions (sorry, not sure which these would be though) and using different driving techniques. Hopefully it won't really get that cold this year in the UK, unless you're in Scotland or remote areas where there is likely to be snow. Let us know what you find with your choice of tyres. Cheers, Trevor
  19. I find this quite unbelievable! Firstly, we are in Europe and all headlamps are made to a European standard and stamped as such. Secondly, what is the difference in the headlamps if the main objective is to aim the kick-up to the correct side (if any) so as not to create any undue dazzling for oncoming cars....that is it! Years ago there were differences on the lens (glass lenses) that affected the parabolic beam pattern but on modern lamps, this is no longer the case. I think they are having a laugh and are after as much money as they can extract from the British motorist. Keep fighting and keep letting us know how it goes.
  20. It seems the Dealers are battling it out amongst themselves then....this could get very interesting. Keep us updated Paul
  21. definitely the best way forward from here is to have a scan carried out and then at least you will know what system / part is at fault before it becomes more of a permanent problem
  22. What a nightmare....but I can't see the issue if the beam pattern doesn't kick up to the nearside, not an issue if it doesn't have a kick up on the offside either.
  23. Hi Laura....welcome to the Forum The loud noise is my main worry...engine lights as long as they are amber in colour is okay but if it is red...then you have big problems. If the power is restricted then that also is an issue and one that needs looking at urgently as it won't be safe to drive. Either way, I would take into a reputable garage who can run a scan on the engine ECU to determine the cause of the running problem and go from there. Let us know what you find Cheers, Trevor
