Red BMW paint
Ah, that's exactly what I bought the other day, the dealership delayed it until tomorrow as there is still cars to be put through their workshop before mine, so I'll be collecting it tomorrow. I used to have a 2001 E46 320D and loved it. Then went and bought a mini (crazy I know) but I was doing 2,000 miles a month and needed something a bit more fuel efficient, but now my mileage is around 6,000 a year I'm jumping at the opportunity to get another Beamer, to say I'm excited is an understatement. The manual gearbox in the mini is absolute pish, so hard and stiff. So I'll be glad to jump into an auto!

This is what I thought, if aught to go out and buy a decent wax then. Any recommendations? I don't pick up the car until Sunday anyway.

Red BMW paint
Hi everyone Yesterday I bought an E92, 57 plate 320 diesel automatic. (177bhp pre-LCI) in RED The paintwork on it currently is fantastic, it has been really well looked after and the red paint shows no signs of fading. However, and I know it sounds silly, I didn't think about the paint fading until after I signed the documents. The age of the car and it's current condition lead me to believe that I'll probably have answered my own question. Can anybody tell me if BMW red paint is liable to fading? I know that recent cars don't tend to. But I just wanted to know, as I'm not too clued up on this kind of thing. I assume BMW use good enough paint and protection to stop this kind of thing happening. See attached photo for the paintwork on the car. Thanks in advance

320i Rpm @ 70mph
No real reason really just curious. I'm currently driving a manual diesel with a 6 speed manual gear box. I'm not fussed over fuel consumption but I don't want to buy a car that's going to rev it's nuts off on the motorway as I do a lot of motorway miles that's all! I'm aware these cars only have a 5 speed auto gear box.

What To Look For When Buying A E46
Rusty break pipes, working key fobs, rear wheel arch rust, turbo performance (diesel) airbag lights, cabin blower performance (check for erratic blowing) and headlight adjustment motors!

2005 E46 Corrosion Rear Wheel Arch
Had this on mine.. Easy fix! Once the rust is cleared up, make sure that just behind the wheel arch, all the mud and road crap is cleared from the little ridge. If you run your fingers up the inside of the wheel arch you'll discover there is a fold in the steel and this is where crap likes to build up, and when it gets wet it can start corroding your paintwork. Mines 2001 and is only just starting to rust. When you clean your car put your hosepipe on full jet and spray this inconvenient part of the wheel arch and use your hands to pull out the crap (very messy the first time!) a quick spray after this each time you clean your car should keep it clear there after! Not sure on how long paintwork warranty is though.. Hope it helps!

Possible To Change From Manual Transmission To Auto? E46 320D 2001
Due to medical problems I am thinking of changing to an automatic car. Same model and car but with an step auto gear box. Rather than shell out more for another car I was wondering how feasible it is to do a gearbox change on my car. I realised with modern cars it is much more complex but I was wondering how do-able it is? If so how much, what is required etc... Thanks!

Common Problems With Your E46
E46 320D Saloon SE Silver So far only had to replace two break pipes on the back but I have encountered a few problems I've not had a chance to sort out yet! Sticky headlight adjustment motor - right hand side. Left hand side works fine when I move the switch but right one only moves sometimes. Motor works but won't move! Rusted rear break pipes Erratic cabin fan speed sounds like it tries to power up and then goes back down and runs like this at different speeds Exhaust pipe is vibrating very loudly .. This problem occurred yesterday and appears to be a clip that has eroded near the gear box Passenger seat occupancy sensor Turbo decides to kick in at around 2,500 revs then powers down again very quickly but this has been sorted simply by putting engine cleaner in the fuel tank

Canbus System...!?
Oh good! I bought a pair of error free LED's on eBay due to be delivered on Tuesday.. Hopefully they are nice (or they're going back) and I run into no problems! Seller assured they are a 'plug n play' fit

Canbus System...!?
I know, but doesn't it make the lights on the dash board come up, and apparently they flicker on start up because of the difference in power or something... No idea!

Canbus System...!?
Just had a read and I think there is possibility it doesn't, as it says it's only mandatory for diesel cars to have them after in the EU after 2004, judging from small money saving choices from BMW (for example 1 fog light) I'm going to say it doesn't as surely it would only cost them more money however I won't hold my breath as knowing my luck it does ;p no idea how to find out though

Canbus System...!?
So what is this canbus system, and how do I know whether my car has one? It's a 2001 pre face lift 320D.... I'm planning on fitting the following LED lights, and I need to know whether my car will accept them or whether I will have to buy a conversion kit for it !
