  1. yeah, might use it as an opportunity to get the cars 28.8MPG combined fuel economy, coz it ain't gonna ever get anywhere near that again :(

Yes you might aswell give it a try.

My car has only got a 2.5 straight 6 and is supposed to average 27mpg but im getting about 35mpg over the last 1150 miles of motorway and A roads so I'll be very impressed if the M5 can get 28mpg from a 4.4 v8 twin turbo.

  2. Cheers mate,

The worst thing will be the 1200 mile run in, can't go above 5k rpm, no wide open throttle and apparently you don't get full power. Once you take it back to BMW for the service, they update the software and give you the full beans....!Removed! technology eh ?!

I've already told the wife we're going to Cornwall for the weekend as soon as I get it, need to get to 1200 miles asap :-)

So that will be the cars most economical 1200 miles ever.

  3. Hi Guys .Couldn't believe it till i saw the old fuel filter .I'v got a 1996 2.8 E39 which i'v had for the last ten years .Still got only 90k miles I got a good mechanic friend of mine to do a full service on this car for me and although the car has been serviced over the last ten years by different mechanics and myself in between doing oil changes i was surprised to see that the car had the original fuel filter that was fitted to the car at manufacture .I have never have had any problems regarding the original filter ..Got to say i'm impressed that a fuel filter could last for 17 years .They certainly made them to last .

What was the condition of the filter you removed?

  4. It's a scam in a way but they cannot guarantee that the parts you give them are genuine parts which ever brand they are even if they are bmw. They don't know they are not Chinese copies.

I know they guarantee their parts but its no excuse for them to charge for example 120 for front discs that cost 60 pounds.

  5. They rarely are. I used to work for Albion automotive. The make parts for daf, french poo. The made brake drums. Some went to daf and were put in daf boxes and some went to part co and put in their boxes. Did at the same time on the same machine by the same guy on the same shift.

The biggest scam the Stealers pull is not letting you supply your own parts for fitting because they are not BMW approved even though they supply the same parts that are rebranded.

  6. I'll need to research.

Just done a bit of research and suppliers such as Textar, Jurid, & Pagid supply BMW with their discs/pads and they are re-branded as BMW.

So BMW saying they are Genuine BMW parts is a load of rubbish as they are supplied by the above companies.

  7. He said. "There is a bit of movement in these prices. So if you find them cheaper lets us know".

I said. Ok. Who makes them?

"Oh no no no these are genuine bmw parts".

Hmm I was under the impression that Jurid made discs & pads as they are the OEM supplier and Pagid are OE spec and quality.

  8. Hi,

Just signed up, down south in Bucks. Have an F10 M5 on order, Singapore Grey on 19's. Got to wait until end of September though, gonna feel like ages..!

    Had 4 x M3's in the past, including 2 x CSL's. I'm growing up with a couple of kids now :-)

Welcome to the forum, very jealous you have a M5 on order.

  9. I could get 4 Pagid discs for the price of the fronts.

and pagid front and rear pads for the price of the rear pads alone

Haha they must be winding you up with those prices, I paid 89.90 for 2 front discs (Pagid), front pads and wear sensors.

  10. BMW parts

    Air - £25.44

    Oil - £19.46

    Pollen- £42.28

    Fuel - £44.51

Ill leave the pollen ill go for this just now.

Where are you getting Pollen filters that cost 42.28?

The one's I ordered from Eurocarparts for my 525i were 14.70 for Hengst filters.

  11. Ive only ever used an aftermarket panel filter once before and that was on an old 1997 Honda Accord 2.2 vtec, it was a Pipercross one and I just gave both sides a bit of a wipe before putting in the airbox to make sure there was no excess oil and there were no issues with the MAF.

  12. Bad a look about picked up pollen, oil & fuel filters. Still looking for air though. I was thinking of getting the k&n however read on a few random good search forums that the oil on the filter can cause problems with the MAF sensor. Also it sounds terrible. Can anyone advise?

Anyway I was looking about and trying to figure out which filter to get. I know its just a bit of cotton/paper. Euro car parts recommends the crosland filter as do CP4L.

What price am I looking at for a genuine BM part?

Yes an oiled filter can screw around with the MAF which has led to people having to replace them.

I would advise a panel filter over an oiled cone filter any day of the week.

I replaced my air filter a couple of weeks ago with a Crossland filter from Eurocarparts. there are about 3 brands they offer so just pick 1 as they are all quite cheap, think I paid about 7 or 8 pounds :D

  13. what are those 1 series like to drive? i always liked the look of them i just dont think its big enough for my tribe to get in

A mate of mine has the 123d coupe and Ive been a back seat passenger a couple of times, im only 5'7 though but was comfy enough.

  14. Cheers Martin

James it's only the 1.8 petrol I am very surprised with the power when you get the revs up.

I think even the 118i is a 2.0 engine, anyway its better to have a smaller engine rear wheel drive car with 50/50 weight distribution than a 3.0 front wheel drive car :)
