My 728I Up For Sale - 2000 X Reg, C10500 Miles
Right; pictures at last (god damned photobucket)!!! Apologies that the car isnt gleaming but its dont nothing but rain here for the last 8 hours. Pics of the wheels (all be it theyre dirty) shows that they've mint condition. Interior pics, engine bay pic and all sides photographed as well. Picture of the expansive boot (put it this way; the boots that big that I fitted out 6.5ft Christmas tree in it in December 2012 and only had to bend the tip of the tree to close the boot lid)! Picture of new battery and full, OEM tool kit plus pic of the CD changer One again apologies for the dirtiness of my BMW! Pics: Other bits to mention: Rear seats have the pull down armrest which has a decent storage cubby built into it. Also x2 cup holders for the rear seats fitted into the middle seat and x2 cup holders for the front fitted at the bottom of the central dash Comes with a fully sealed OEM first aid kit built into the rear middle seat at the top No spare wheel is present but the 18" Style 32 alloys can be picked up on eBay all the time for c£25-£50; usually with a tyre! Personally I prefer having a tyre weld kit in the car as they take up less room and are hell of a lot lighter (obviously)! Mileage clearly seen closer to 100300 but as already mentioned this will go up but not by a lot! Car comes with 3 original keys (one just simply a key; the other 2 the original central locking fobs. The boot is a soft open & close system; it doesn't open all the way up but releases and its very light with the pneumatic damper system and it soft closes too so no slamming needed! Feel free to contact me if you need/want any further info :)

Wheels
You dont have to use BMW as stated above but clearly, if you do, you need to get OEM wheels I'd say that this is just them protecting their back incase of issues etc... Get yourself to a decent garage that has 4 wheel laser alignment, get the settings off the tinterweb and take them down with you and ask them to do full alignment. You DONT need OEM wheels on the car; all alloys are round (unless damaged) so they're more or less all the same to do!

My 728I Up For Sale - 2000 X Reg, C10500 Miles
For sale: BMW E38 728i – 2000 X reg – c100500 miles but will go up slightly although as I work from home it wont go up by much at all. The car is in Aspen Silver Metallic I’m looking to sell my 2000 X reg BMW 728i as my wife & I have just bought our first house but also the car is too long and too wide to get down the narrow driveway so unfortunately I need to downsize The BMW is in very good condition indeed. I’ve owned since August/September 2012 when I bought it at just over 99k miles! It’s had, since I bought it: x2 oil and oil filter changes with Fuchs 5W40 and BMW oil filter (via Opie Oils) Front upper and rear upper ARMS changed which got rid of the body shimmy that the E38’s can suffer from (General Traffic parts) Brand new Boge and KYB rear suspension (Boge shocks and KYB springs; changed due to the NS spring had snapped at the bottom coil in the seat). Also had 2 new rear top mounts at the same time Front drop links replaced (General Traffic parts) x6 new NGK iridium spark plugs New in/under bonnet micro filters New K&N air filter Brand new bulbs all round including LED front sidelights & silver indicator lights (front and side repeaters) HEL stainless braided brake lines with new DOT4 brake fluid Brand new brake discs and pads all round (front & rear); again General Traffic items (discs). Brake pads are EBC Fully refurbished in ‘sparkle silver’ Style 32 alloys wheels; correct 8J & 9J staggered fitment with 255/45/18 tyres at the rear and 235/50/18 tyres up front (brand new fitted less than 150miles ago). The alloys were acid dipped; shot blasted, powder coated and had a ‘sparkle’ lacquer to finish them. They look fantastic! New alloy wheel centre caps from BMW with new black wheel bolts New throttle/intake pipe from the air intake box (genuine BMW) as there was a tiny split in the original one so decided to change it, as it was only £35! Wasn’t causing any issues; just peace of mind! It’s taxed until June 2013 and the MOT is also due in June 2013. It has partial service history; I verified its miles by doing a search on the MOT website and printed all the MOT’s off to show mileage was correct. A full HPI check was also carried out and gave a full clean bill of health (finance/damage wise etc…). There are also quite a few receipts from the previous owners and the original leather bound folder that came with the car with the manuals etc… It has the OEM CD changer in the boot with the OEM stereo head unit and tape player up front. NOTHING has been changed on the car from OEM; it is how it should be (not lowered, original radio etc…). The interior of the car is VERY clean indeed. It’s been vacuumed more or less weekly and with new interior mats its spotless. The memory seats work superbly and are very comfy. There are no faults with the car electrics whatsoever! The body work is very good indeed however there are a few very slight car park dents which were there when I bought the car (very hard to see unless looked for). There are also 2 small patches of rust that I’d been quoted £100 to get sorted but was going to leave this until the winter weather finally passes us by! One patch on the boot lid by the shut line and one very small patch under the passenger / NS wing mirror As it stands the car wants for nothing! It needs nothing and will sale through the next MOT with ease. It runs SUPERBLY; so smooth but with great power delivery when needed. I have literally spent over £1k getting the car into its current standard and now all it needs is a new owner that will enjoy it and look after it as much as I have. It’s a brilliant car and when on motorway runs, at a steady 75mph it gave back c35mpg! Around town this will be lower but I never really paid attention, as I don’t worry about economy due to the minimal miles I do in my cars! It’s big inside and VERY comfy indeed; I’m 6ft 4 and close to 22stone and a big’ish lad with it through all the weightlifting & strongman lifting/competing I’ve done in the past and I can still get a fully gown guy in behind me with room to spare! Very few cars on the market allow for this! Price: £2500 ONO. Willing to hear sensible offers as I’d like to get this sorted sooner rather than later. I think this is a very fair price as the car wants for nothing and is literally ready to be driven away! Please, NO LOW BALL/STUPID OFFERS – You WILL be told to shove it; hard! Located just outside of Preston, Lancashire. More than happy to collect anyone who wants to view the car and travels to collect via the trains etc… Pictures:

Does My 728I Have Heated Front Screen
Not that I know of; if it was heated there'd be very fine elements running through the whole of the screen like on FORD's etc...

Brake linings attention? What do you mean?

A Bit More Power?
I know youre enthusiasts... So am I! You think after spending £15k on getting a 200BHP N/A VTEC engine running close to 290BHP N/A isnt work of an enthusiast?! All I'm saying is to get the 728i running more power; for what it is IMO it's not really worth it. For the increase in power youd get from the mods mentioned above; the money outlay is too much unless everything can be bought cheap; fitted for free (ie. by yourself) but in reality, that isnt going to happen! From what I've read and spoken to people about; the M52 engine is already a great runner and probably doing the best it can. Adding a stainless exhaust to it would make some difference but for a fairly steep expense!
-
A Bit More Power?
Who's arguing? No one on this topc...! Just merely stating that really its pointless. The car is quick enough for 95% of the owners; including me who still owns a 285BHP N/A Integra DC5 with close to £15k's worth of work done to it!!! The 728i is a cruiser; not a track car and really wouldnt benefit much from expensive mods BAR a turbo if the owner REALLY wanted to go down that route but by his initial post he's only got a few hundred £££ so what your suggesting is so far out of budget its not even worth thinking about!
-
A Bit More Power?
Personally I wouldnt bother! You'll be looking close, if not over £1k for an exhaust, remap and other bits etc... A decent 2.5" stainless system on the 728i (well made not a cheap quickly made jobby) will cost easily over £600 to begin with! I'd just stick a K&N air filter in place of the OEM paper one; rid the car of any extra weight it doesnt need (i.e. stuff in boot and the spare wheel - I have a BMW Tyre Weld kit in mine instead) and enjoy the 728i for the cruising comfort and great drive as its meant to be

Quick One - Ccfl Headlight Modifications
Apologies; had a lot on These are the sidelights; just them on (crap pic sorry) but you can see how bright/vibrant they are: Took 10mins of faffing with needle nose pliers to swap them across (Ive hands like shovels) but they look great; great for daytime driving and bright enough to have on without main lights until it gets dark etc...

750Il Which Wheels??????????

728I Sluggish
I thought this had to be done carefully and with the gearbox oil at a certain temp etc... I spoke to BMW re a gearbox oil change and they quoted cloe to £500!!!

New To The 728I (2000 Model) - A Few Questions...
I'd say so. There's always ITG and Green Cotton etc but they're more expensive £29 for a lifetime air filter is peanuts!

2000 E38 728I - Suspension Overhaul
Update: Old shocks off; new ones on :D Feels so much better now; even before the rear NS spring snapped a few days back! This was the offending article: Ended up having to cut the shock off the bush at the bottom and heat the joint till it glowed red and then forcably twist the socket out of the bottom strut as it'd seized in there good and proper: New shocks together and ready to go on: Took 3 hours at my pals garage to get them both done; what a nightmare! Cars back in one piece though now; took 10mins to get the interior back together. Just needs a good wash now... Oh and the alloys to be refurbed (in a week or so) and for a few tiny patches of the dreaded rust appearing which will be sorted in around 3-4 weeks!

2000 E38 728I - Suspension Overhaul
After changing the front & rear upper arms and front droplinks; the rear suspension was looking like it could do with changing! Had a look round for aftermarket set-ups and thought I'd decided to go down the Bilsten shocks and Eibach springs option BUT decided to stick with OEM spec for now as I dont want to compromise the ride quality! A little update: Decided just to stick with OEM spec suspension; TBH I dont want to compromise the ride quality of the 7 and if/when we have passengers I dont want to run the risk of it grounding out anywhere etc... Been forced to do the rear suspension ASAP as the NS rear coil spring has snapped in the spring seat (noticed it on Thursday just gone). Gone for Boge shocks and KYB springs from General Traffic. Great service and everything arrived yesterday after being ordered Friday afternoon! £250 inc vat all in for both sides; cant complain at those prices! Just took the inside of the rear of the car apart; took me 30mins using this guide: http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/590961 Just need to take the car to my pals garage on Tuesday AM to get the shocks swapped across. Would have a bash myself but already know that the bolts at the bottom of the shock are more or less seized so will leave it to my pal who has got all the necessary tools to get them undone. Shouldnt take more than an hour fingers crossed :) Will get the fronts done soon but not as urgent as the front shocks/springs looks to be in very good condition (suspicious feeling that they may have been changed once already)! Will update with pics Tuesday sometime :D

Will get some pics up Tuesday as away currently :)

Quick One - Ccfl Headlight Modifications
I used these to replace the OEM 501 sidelight bulbs in the headlights: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-7-Series-E38-728i-501-W5W-8SMD-LED-Canbus-Side-Lights-Bulb-Upgrade-New-/230914711818?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35c396e10a Couldnt be bothered re angel lights; everyones got them so nice to be a bit different! The LED sidelights are VERY bright and very noticeable so would be a easier & better option IMO No dismantling either; just need to have either small hands or be good with needle nose pliers to get the !Removed! bulbs out & back in again; not shovel hands like myself!

Tyre Recommendations - E38 16" Alloys
Not messing with the ratios! BMW recommend either 215/65/16 or 235/60/16's!

Tyre Recommendations - E38 16" Alloys
Managed to get hold of some superb condition BMW 16" Ellipsoid alloys for my E38. Going to use these whilst I get my Style 32's refurbed so after some tyre suggestions because if I like the change in ride comfort I may keep them and sell the Style 32's on (already got them up for sale to see if theres any interest). The ones I've bought have Pirelli P6000 tyres on currently; 215/65/16's but I'm looking to change to 235/60/16 as I've read that they're a better choice for better handling etc... The Falken ZDE912's, 914's and Khumo KUI31's seem to get rave reviews and good prices too (£60-£70) as opposed to £100 per corner for the Style 32's! Any other recommendations? Cheers :D

New To The 728I (2000 Model) - A Few Questions...
The wobble will be the front and rear UPPER arms that you'll need to replace. I got my parts from General Traffic at around £180 inc vat and it took me 2 hours to get them fitted. In that time I managed to free up the rear camber bolts which were seized; had replacements from BMW and they were very cheap so maybe worth buying in as well just in case. If you're not already; join up to BNMWLand forum as well as you'll get a decent forum discount for genuine BMW parts from one of the dealers that trades on there. Very helpful they are too :) Re the air filter; I changed recently to a K&N filter; the paper filter was filthy and the K&N only cost £25 via eBay so well worth the investment as they've a million mile warranty! It's a 30second swap over; unclip the air filter panel that holds the filter; slid it out, swap them over and slide & click back into place :) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/K-N-Element-Panel-Filter-BMW-Z3-Z4-328-520-X3-33-2070-/370731297729?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item56514eabc1 Gone up £4!

Need To Borrow Some Alloys
I am going to get rid as it's of no use to me and comes with a great tyre; solid tread all round by the looks of it. Sat in my shed currently gathering dust and cobwebs! What's your offer?
-
Need To Borrow Some Alloys
I'm going to get my Style 32's refurbed ASAP in the New Year and wanted to see if anyone could lend em a set of alloys (ideally with legal tyres) that'll fit my 7 series E38 for a week or so I work from home so very few miles would be put on them; just need them so I can leave my alloys with the refurbisher and be able to use the car as necessary until I pick the Style 32's back up. More than happy to pay for a courier to collect & send back etc... Just saves the hassle of having to buy another set to do the same job Not bothered if they're the OEM 16" alloys or other 18" alloys or what condition they're in etc... In saying that I've got one OEM 16' alloy so may only need 3 of those! Thanks Dan

Bmw E38 2000 728I - Full Overhaul Before Winter
I'm going to be sorting a few things on the hearse ( ) before winter kicks in and wanted some recommendations. I'll be replacing the front and rear UPPER suspension arms (front main bushes have worn and the rear ball joints have worn) plus both sides eccentric bolts & nuts at the rear I'll also be doing a full fluids change (brake, auto-box, diff and engine oil) and it's this I'd like recommendations on please What engine oil (currently running a cheap 5W 40 through for a month or 2 as a flush as the oil when I changed it was DISGUSTING!!! What diff oil? What auto-box oil? What brake fluid and has anyone uprated the brake lines to braided stainless lines such as HEL or Goodridge? Thanks

Bmw E38 2000 728I - Couple Of Fault Codes
Been out to see some relatives tonight and the engine light popped on about 3miles from home Plugged in my OBD II reader and used the Torque Pro app on my HTC and came up with the following 2 codes: P0170 - Powertrain Fuel Trim (Bank 1) P0173 - Powertrain Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 2) Can someone please advise me on these and give me an idea of what may need replacing? Thanks

Bmw E38 728I Alloys
Hello I have a set of 18" alloys on my 728i currently; 8J up front and 9J at the rear. They're the multi-spoke alloys with quite a deep dish (unsure of the exact model/name) What I'd like to know is that are these wheels that came on the 7 series and also what are the ideal tyre sizes for them? Currently they're running 235/45/18's up front and 255/45/18's at the rear but then I look at alloy wheel websites they show tyres with alloy packages to be 235/50/45 up front and 255/45/18 at the rear? Also; does it make sense to keep 18" alloys on the 728i or would 17's be a better compromise? I think the car came originally with 16" alloys as the spare wheel is a 16" alloy! Thanks
