  1. Sadly my BMW is going to be sold on Ebay shortly, Due to ill health I can no longer drive, Having restored her to her former glory and given me much satisfaction and with help from club members to complete all the work. I thank those who have given such good advice,I hope some of the advice I have given has helped also helped some. Old age comes to us all so time to hang the keys up. Thank you again for all the support. Steve

  2. Hey, Get someone to follow you to see if steam is coming out of the exhuast pipe, a sure sign. There can be a minor hole in a gasket that gradually develops into some thing major. If you are sure its water in the oil there is a problem. I have had this happen twice and yes I agree it is very expensive because the head will have to be skimmed. Please let us know how you get on. Steve

  3. This is a strange one that lots of older BME's suffer, There are lots of reasons but the most common is the splines from the gearbox rusting up along with the clutch release bearing, clutch plates last a long time before they wear out. Try pumping the clutch pedal a dozen or so times before going out, it may make all the difference and may cure the problem. The actual clutch housing condensates causing the rust to form. Lastly the flywheel can distort on higher milage cars but rarely, a garage inspection is costly so hopefully pumping the pedal will work.

  4. Hi , Matha, I seem to remember having the same problem on a previous car, after garage investigation they found a chip in the alarm system faulty, cost an hours labour and a new alarm, I will not frighten for with the cost. It also could be one of the sensors, these also are not cheap. It happened again so we ripped the ruddy thing out, The siren that is as nobody took any notice anyway. Sorry to be pessimistic but you will really need an electronics engineer to inspect.

  5. out of interest i used to deliver all types of BMW on trade plates all over the country, When collecting FROM A FIELD I had to look at all the paperwork and believe me!, some had been sat there for over 18 months!! They then were taken too a main dealer and registered when sold, So could easily be two years old, SOLD as NEW which of course they were to the first owner......

  6. Could be the air flow meter is not working or blocking of the air filter itself, if you take the meter apart remember to replace the seal with a new one! Pipes can sometimes get blocked so check air is getting to the meter first. Hope this helps.

  7. I have to agree with Michael on every thing, I t happened to me on a car park kerb and it smashed the wheel bearing Which unbeknown was badly worn, Hope you solve it soon. Steve
