My ABS light has come on also the handbrake warning light is on. This light has come on and gone off quite a few time , but this time it stays on. When I plugged in the fault code reader it came up with the error code of 5DF5. Control unit internal fault. Any ideas ? Does mean replacing the ABS unit. Is it expensive ?I am extremely reluctant to go near the BMW main dealer. My car is a 2002 E46 estate.

I have been informed by the BMW dealer that my n/s/r coil spring is fractured. They will replace the spring on the nearside only, as the offside one is ok. Is this ok ? Should I insist that they replace the offside as well. my car is a 318i se estate. Lost brume.

someone stole my nearside wing mirror glass, when I parked in the Eden project carpark. on bank holiday Monday. when we came back to the car I only noticed when I looked across as I pulled out of the bay. no glass on the floor or any damage to the wing mirror. has anyone suffered as well. .

This my first 3 series 318i se estate. 02 plate. Handbrake not holding, brake shoes replaced. probable first time replacement. cooling fan not working on slow speed. fan replaced. Leaking coolant tank. leaking under pressure, replaced. brake vacuum pump replaced. Oil seal on rocker box leaking , replaced. Very good as for a 12 year old car.

I have only had my 3 series 318i se touring since Nov 2011. The problem i have had is the handbrake wont hold on moderate slopes. I went to BMW main dealer, who found the brake shoes were severly worn and needed to be replaced. Now the handbrake works great. Also the electric radiator fan only works on fast spin. Not to bad for a 10 year old. Since then rad fan replaced, expansion tank replaced. small split leaks when hot. Front near side suspension bushes replaced. Rear near side coil spring replaced (spring broken). Rocker box seal replaced. Sump seal replaced. Long time leak. Drivers airbag module replaced, under national recall. Car now 12 years old, most things are age related. Next year car will be a teenager 13 yrs old, what next ?

Hello All, Is it possible to remove the clutch foot rest, as i keep catching the edge of my foot on the rest as i change gear. If not i will have to learn to point my clutch foot more to the right to avoid the rest, perhaps should of bought a automatic instead ? I have a 3 series 318 se (02) plate tourer.

I have recently bought my first BMW. A 3 series 3181 se tourer. I went to check the coolant level expecting to see a float level indicator popping up in the neck of the expansion tank. All i could see was a plastic stick part of the float wedged across the neck of the tank. Where has the rest of this float indicator gone, Can i get one to replace it, is it worth it or shall i revert to the old fashion way of checking the coolant level. Is it worth replacing ? Apart from this i really like the car.many thanks. Dave Morris.
