  3. well managed to get and have a look at it and it look like its the off side shock has gone, wet and you can hear the air in it. now comes the question about the shock lol. is it just a shock or is it the whole strut, as i aint got a clue, i wouldnt know what part number it is or anything. the only thing i could find is something like this http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/kyb-shock-absorbers-buy.php hope its ok to post links up on here as i havent had time to look at the rules sorry mods. so hopefully someone can help in letting me know if im looking at the right part. cheers all. steve
  4. ah cheers gav, thats very kind of you mate. might get back to you on that one as im not sure which day im coming over yet this week. was suppose to be tomorrow but with things going on here then it might be a different day, but thanks ever so much mate.

  6. ummmm this is starting to sound expensive lol. but thank you all for your help though, it is very much appreciated ta. just got to find a decent garage to go to, dont really want to go to a kwikfit or something like that.
  7. cheers mart, least i know what im looking for now lol.
  8. cheers mate, will do. cant get rid of her just cos of this, shes to nice to. once this is sorted and a good service then she will be a goodun. cheers again mate.
  9. yeh thats what i thought mate, thats what was worrying me. shouldnt of bought with the heart, should of used me head a little lol. but thanks for your help again, least i wont be going in blind to the garage.
  10. cheers dabsy, much appreciated thanks mate. i have got to say with the steering thinking on it now she dont seem as tight as i would of thought. dont know if that would have anything to do with it too. dont get me wrong shes not all over the place but not what im used to. so with the parts, just to make sure i know what im looking for, is she a E46 then.
  11. this is the other side of her. sorry about the pics, there off me phone so not all that good.
  12. cheers dabsy, thanks for that, i think i will take it to a national tyres or something like that to have a good look at her, it just seems like everything is not going right at the mo lol. but thanks again.
  13. i have bounced the front end and its the normal down up and back to postion. it dont seem to be lower on the one side either, only done by the finger test though, but will have a good look at the anti roll bar though, thanks for that mate. i was wondering if the springs might be a little shot but just didnt know where to start. they seem to be ok as far as the bounce test goes. but saying that we are talkign about me now lol. thanks again and will have a look asap. it shouldnt hurt it to much if i have to drive her though would it, if i take it steady like, cos in if i take it steady then its a nice smooth ride. might just have to take her to garage if i cant sort it out myself, which i was hoping to be able to do to be honest. cheers again.
  14. hiya dabsy, had a look at the springs and they look ok to be honest. im quite sure it hasnt been lowered either, but as far as the bump stops no i havent had a look at the to be honest as i know nothing about these motors. but will try and find out where they are.if it is them are they a big job or not. thanks for that, its much appreciated thanks. its mainly on the drivers side but it does happen on both fronts to be honest, but not as bad on the passengers side. but thanks for the help.
  15. hiya all, i hope someone can help me here please, i have had a quick read through and im not sure if ive found the anwser but here goes. i had to buy a motor and came across my 316 which is a lovely motor, now im not sure what model it is but im guessing its a E46 i think but not sure on that score. its a 316 on a r plate on a 1997. now the worries i have is the front suspension, when going round corners the mud flaps are scaping the floor when going round not just sharp corners but what i would call just normal corners at normal speeds. this also happens if you go over a bumpy road too. i have to say im a little worried about it cos it goes right through me when i hear it. like i said i have had a quick look round here under the common problems and dont know if im looking in the right place but i was wondering if it could be the control arm, i also think it could be the shocks or springs. she dont look low when looking at her though and she hasnt been lowered either. she has done 124k and i see the off side shock is a little wet giving me the impression that it could be the shocks, but i havnt a clue not with never owning a bmw before. see i had to buy a car in a rush as we had a motabilty car before but that had to go back after my wife passed away last month so as you can imaging i had to get one quick and this motor really did pull at the heart strings as though to speak. anyways im just worried about the front suspention and was wondering if anyone could help. i need to get it fixed asap because i dont feel its right, and im the sort of person that likes to fix it before it goes wrong, plus i got a trip to stafford tomorrow and im starting to think twice about it. dont get me wrong on a straight road ( donna laugh) shes a nice ride but just want her sorted. sorry for the waffleing on but need the help, if i have forgoten somthing in my attempt to explain it then please tell me. cheers steve.
  16. cheers daz, will do when i got her cleaned up a bit, only got some as i bought her which they aint bad but not that good to put up on here, well not for me anyways lol.
  17. nah i didn't bigal, very long story about why i didnt but just couldnt be bothered with all the hassle and paperwork, ive had enough of paperwork over these last 2 months. got her sorted today and they brought a screen with a green sunstrip in it which i told them i didn't have before, say that though its the same colour as the car so im a bit chuffed about that lol. a bit dear for a sun strip and a clean of the inside of the windscreen though but hey ho thats life i suppose. but thanks for that though, hopefully i can start enjoying it now thanks al.
  18. lol. well im the opposite way gav, i used to know about cars but know nowt now lol
  19. wow what a great welcome thank you, it is a great site and thank you. got to say the 316 looks the part out on the drive now, so glad i got her. it was a case of having to but so glad that i plumbed for her. thanks again for the welcome, i cant get over the friendly welcome thanks chaps. i'll do me best ot get involved on the site with my little knowledge but hopefully will get there.
  20. thanks al, needs to be at the mo, i went out in her today for the first time and went past a road sweeper on the other side and bang, need a new windscreen. so to say im not a happy bunny at the mo is a understatment lol. my luck has surely got to change soon. p.s. sorry about the winge lol.

  22. hiya all, just signed up here last night as i have just got myself my first bmw 316i. had to get a motor quick as our motabilty car had to go back and now being on my own in the sticks my motorbike is not that practical for the old tescos run lol. anyway i got this 316 in dark green, not looked at it propelry yet as i have been to busy but thats what tomorrows been set aside for. i used to be a mondeo chap ( please go easy on me lol) and was in there enthusiasts club for years but now thought i needed a change. feels like a nice motor and looking forward to getting to grips with this forum and all the people in here too. looks a great site so far as i havent had time to look round yet but will be having a good look around. sorry just me waffling on here, but looking forward to getting to know everyone and especially my new motor. cheers steve.
