cheers geoff, im starting to look into a new motor tonight to be honest, wont be for a week or two till i can get things together but just looking. i would like another one, dont have to be a compact but just love the beemers. yes i know what u mean about the kitchen, i left her to it while the workmen were channeling out ect, couldnt stick the noise, so had to go and sort the car out then ;-) lol

well the verdicts in and it dont look to good. the head gasket is a gonner. the thermostat had been taken out, there was some contaminants in the water but it wasnt oil. have been told it was a bodge up just to keep it running. strange thing is i went to it today and started her up and the knocking tapping noise went and i drove her home, she was first off going on 3 but she seemed to clear her self and she drove okish. a bit of smoke out the pipe but it suprised me for it to sort of clear itself. i aint got any confindance in the car so im going to break and scrap it im afraid and look for another one, hopefully i can pick one up somewhere. oh well heres hoping. been a stressful day what with cars here there and everywhere and what with having a new kitchen in with the workmen making such a racket my head is fried lol.

thanks jim, yeh i will be getting home one day this week and then hopfully have a look at her, so hopefully it might not be as bad as fisrt thought, fingers crossed.

no not yet geoff, shes a lovely car for the age but will have to see if its repairable fisrt which is unlikely. should know within a few days though.

well thats how long ive got back into the fold before the engine went. so to say im peed off is a understatment, she was a nice motor too. went up the road and it was like she started to miss and then cut out on me. she started and a puff of smoke came out the back like she cleared herself but a loud ticking, tapping, metalic sort of noise is coming from her. so im not sure but it might look like shes dropped a valve or something simular. dont know for sure if it is that but it sounds a little like it to me. the sound goes faster if you rev it a bit but turned her off and left her after i had to drive it 1/2 a mile to saftey. if anyone could give me some good news then i would appreciate it as ive been trying to presuade myself it was a sticking lifter or somthing like that but deep down i think shes blown. depressed or what, best thing is i got things coming through the post that i ordered for her to put her nice and tidy, eg: door mirror,rear wiper motor. talking about rubbing salt in the wounds or what

thank you all. yes jim it was a case of shall i or not put them up. well we will NOT be going down that path again thats for sure. wanted to get out and do the obligatory sunday wash and polish but the weather has put a dampener on that thats for sure, so had to settle for cleaning the inside of her. i will put a pic of her, shes a e36 (i think as memory is scetchy) and thought we would go down the compact route.

evenin all, just popped in to say im back to having a 316 again, both me and the mrs missed having the old girl so had to return to one after 3 or 4 cars later. went and tried a rover, then a citroen and a pug, cant beet the beemer though, the only one that came close was the xsara vtr which was nice. anyways we got ourself a 316 compact this time, just picked it up and drove her home so aint had time to have a good shifty round her yet. i know theres a couple of little jobs to do but all in time. just thought id pop my head in and say im back though.

hi all, just wondered if anyone would know whats up with my abs light. its wierd to say the least as its intermittant, god knows why but sometimes it stays on and other times it works as its suppose to. dont know if its me but it seems to be more in the wet if anything but can happen at any time, sometimes its off and halfway through a journey it will pop on. just cant get my head round it, the only thing i thought of was the relay that is in the stickey on here but i cant see how it can be if its 50/50. hope someone can shed some light on this for me ( no pun intended ) as its doing my head in. cheers.

evening all, just thoguht i would drop a line to say ive come back. after 6 months of driving ( dont laugh lol ) a fiesta it was time to get the beemer mot'd. well she failed it as i thought she would but not as bad as i thought. the list consisted of, broken rear spring ( about one coil had broke off and no where to be seen ), side light out, rear high brake light out, offside balljoint shot, a apparently rusted front brake pipe ( wasnt rusted at all, the only thing that was wrong was the plastic sheath had gone ), nearside handbrake not holding. so not a bad list, to be honest i thought it would of been alot more but was chuffed with that. the handbrake was just the self adjuster wasnt adjusting, all it was doing was undoing when the brake was pressed. Its so nice to be back in her after riding round in the tin of beans, so i thought i better show me face again on here. so hello again.

hope you dont mind me jumping in here sam, but i was wondering the same with mine. i have a 97 on a r plate and its a 316se and was wondering if mines chain or not. for some reason i having a feeling it is but hope someone can confirm it please cheers silly me, my info is on the left hand side here, sorry for being so thick lol.

will do mate, want her straight as soon as poss as shes a lovely motor. i got the problem now with the clutch pedal squeeking, so it looks like some bushes are in need of. it dont rain unless it pours does it lol

nah dabsy, its 89 each mate. bought some oil as well to give her a change and forgot to get a filter, so its back to the shop tomorrow to get a filter, no point in doing it without a filter. just going to give her a quick service which should help a little too. cheers again.
