My son is getting creative
Guess that’s my weekend sorted! either that, or I’m sleeping on the sofa as the spare bed is now taken! 😂
-
What's the noise and what is the real issue
Lift the car up and see if the wheel moves freely when the handbrake is off. then its brake disc pads without copper grease.
-
What's the noise and what is the real issue
My immediate guess is the handbrake shoes are too tight. People forget they are in there, separate from the disk pads. how old are brakes?

My son is getting creative
Update! … bonnet and boot sourced and awaiting delivery from a very nice guy who breaks BMWs… Tim at bmw classic spares in Northampton. once they are on, I’ll set about polishing the whole car and try to hide the side scratches. It’ll be like a new un!

The doors should polish out with a good t cut and paint pen…. The bonnet is deeply scratched… my wife got caught at 71 in a 60… going uphill in the diesel convertible… lord knows what it would have been in the X5. 😂 im now back at work, enjoying the silence!

Copy Ignition Key?
P.s… the original key might work if you change the battery. The door locks are not linked to the immobiliser or chip. The keys can be synced to the car doors once the battery is replaced.

Copy Ignition Key?
The chip can be seen on these pics and its location. This needs to be near the ignition barrel or it won’t be read. the kit from Amazon worked well with mine. I’m sure you can only write to the chips and not rewrite, so it’s a one shot. I programmed it before getting it cut jut in case.

Copy Ignition Key?
Hi Norrimac. the key you had cut, did they programme the key to the ignition? They would have had to read the key from your car and remove the dme unit and circuit board from your car. the chip in the key is a small black rectangular thing about the size of a rice grain… this is what needs programming. what key reader was used? If the ignition key works, then the reader doesn’t. The key reader I use is actually an AK90… I can send you a link if you are tech savvy.

Burst tyre and alloy damage
Oh no! It’s always the cats…. Or pigeons! I would assume bmw would replace it rather than a repair as it would be a main dealer. also, they should check the hub and anti roll bars and all the gubbins related to the wheel. Then they should check alignment etc…. It will not be cheap as you say. go through the insurance, it’s what you pay it for…. I know it will add premiums etc but backstreet Barry could do you a deal for £100 …. Approved dealers won’t and they will (or should) check everything with a fine tooth comb.

Engine light on again. Injector problem?
Right… hooked the computer up and it’s saying bank 1 and 2 deviation too rich. live feed seems ok and oxygen sensors seem to be stable and adjusting with each other at the same rates.

Copy Ignition Key?
I have all the stuff to code new keys for the x5 e53….. 😝😉 what you need is a blank key, cut to your barrel. a copy of bmw 1.4.0 or equivalent to see what key slot you have. A piece of kit called an ak47 key reader I think… you need to remove the dme module from the car and read it, copy it, allocate the key, write the programme to the chip in the key and refit the dme (then hope you have done it right or you have bricked a new key… ) enjoy the drive and a beer!

Weird X5 Top End Noise
That’s a noisy bearing or tensioner as greydog said. Try different things like turn the AC on and off to see if there is any difference. Hopefully an easy one.! welcome to the petrol X5 world!

Engine light on again. Injector problem?
Hi all. 2002 x5 e53 3.0 petrol. eml light came on and the wife says the car feels slower. when the car is idling, it seems to have a very slight misfire. i put the small diagnostic reader on it and it came up with lean mix due to low fuel. I’ll rig the car up to the 1.4.0. Would it tell me which injector is playing up or is it best just to replace all 6? is it a straightforward job or a pain… simply because i have just had my gall bladder out! im supposed to rest up, but i have jobs that can be done for the next two weeks! 😂😂😂

hairline crack in coolant reservoir
My x5 blew through the expansion/ filler leaving me stranded. Have a look through the forum. I had to get the car recovered home.
