  1. I have recently bought a 2013 116d EfficiencyDynamics and am exceptionally pleased with my ultra low mileage purchase with one distinct exception, namely the fuel consumption! I have a lot of experience eaking out the last possible inch of driving from every single drip of diesel and have always managed almost exceptional figures from all the cars I have owned over the years, this is of course helped by the fact that we hardly ever drive in any traffic and the vast majority of our driving is along virtually flat Lincolnshire rural roads. I was expecting to get at least close to or as is the normal case, normally quite considerably more than the suggested 74 overall mpg, but I am struggling to get above 60 mpg and as far as I am concerned that is very bad indeed! The tyre pressures are spot on, there aren't any binding brakes and the tracking is perfect. I would be very interested to here what other owners are getting.
  2. Thanks for your comment Trevor................ But nope I can't blame the tyre pressures as they are all 100% spot on and the vast majority of my very limited mileage to date has been done either one or two up with next to no luggage apart from the very occasional bit of shopping. 'Bertie' has a full dealer service history and since taking ownership, I have ensured his lungs have been fully cleaned out.
  3. After many years away from the iconic BMW brand I decided to buy a 116d EfficiencyDynamics just recently. 'Bertie' is a 2013 model with only 18,000 miles on the clock and in superb condition. For the past 20+ years I have been driving diesel engined cars and am known for getting the most amazing fuel consumption figures, but in my new wheels I have to admit that I am almost exceptionally disappointed with the fuel consumption figures achieved to date. The zero VED costs for this model as well as the claimed 74 mpg overall fuel consumption were in part what decided my choice, so you can only imagin how disappointed I am to be achieving so far only 58mpg whilst driving in 'Super Eco' mode and with a feather light foot along the almost traffic free and flat Lincolnshire roads in the surrounding to my house here in very rural Lincolnshire................ Impressed I am not, but that doesn't stop me absolutely loving this little car. I wonder if other owners are finding similar figures?
  4. Many a long year ago when I was a petrol head I was very fortunate to be the tem[porary guardian of an E21 323i that someone had shoe horned a 2.8 motor into it. It had virtually standard wheels and a decent limited slip diff and boy oh boy was it fun to drive and scared the living daylights out of many far faster looking cars along the way!! But as time went by I eventually ditched any thoughts of tyre ripping petrol power and started to get just as much fun out of stretching as many miles out of a tank full of fuel whilst at the same time also still enjoying the cars I was driving. Then a few weeks ago I decided to go one step further and go for a car with ZERO VED as well as some quite rediculous claims for fuel economy........... swallowed all the manufacuters claims and ended up buying an amazingly low mileage 2013 registered 116d Efficiency Dynamics. I have already got to love the car and its' total integrated feel of onne-ness, but what I can't get my head around is how can BMW get away with making the claims they do for the fuel economy? I mean to say the figures as detailed in Autotrader are Urban mpg 64.2, Extra Urban 83.1 & Touring 74.3. No matter how softly I drive 'Bertie' in and around the flat rural Lincolnshire countryside where we live, we never get any more than an exceptionally soft pedalling 59 mpg and when going into Lincoln itself this will plunge to the low 40's. So where or how the hell do BMW come up with such amazing figures? All the best
  5. Hello one and all, I have just joined. The reason why I have joined is that I have just started to look around buying another car and this time I am tempted to look out for an X3, so in actual fact I told a fib when I enrolled as I don't actually own one yet!! Basically I am having a battle with my most beloved, she wants me to buy a LandRover Freelander whereas I want to buy either an X3 or a 3 series touring of which I wouldn't be wanting to go for any of the latest designs as I far prefer the looks of the model that ran up to 2004. And I would only be wanting to go for a diesel version. So basically I am looking to find out the good, the bad and the ugly aspects of owning either. All the best Phil
