What’s good: Has become the urban 4x4, thanks to huge road presence and BMW badge. Six-cylinder, 3.0-litre, 231bhp petrol or 184bhp diesel and 286bhp, 4.4-litre V8 engines. Better than Range Rover, Discovery or Mercedes ML on the road, very capable off-road. 347bhp 4.6iS in UK late 2001. Three-year unlimited mileage warranty from November 2001.
Minor cosmetic and major drivetrain changes, summer 2003. Revised 4.4 V8 has 320bhp and six-speed auto, 3.0d with second-generation common-rail diesel rises to 218bhp yet is capable of 32.8mpg (Combined). New x-Drive system enables power and torque increases to produce usable traction in all situations – new X5 vastly better to drive on and off-road than the original. Four-star NCAP crash safety rating January 2003; five-star rating for latest model June 2003. Diesels have exceptional residual values. BMWs generally had below average warranty repair costs in 2003 Warranty Direct reliability index (www.reliabilityindex.co.uk). Average for breakdowns, problems and faults in 2003 Which? survey.
What’s bad: One-star NCAP rating for pedestrian safety. 4.4 V8 expensive and thirsty. High-spec diesels were commanding premiums of up to £5,000 as late as September 2002. Diesel isn’t as economical as you might expect. As with any new BMW, options can hugely inflate the price. Rated one of the most expensive off-roaders to run in 2003 Which? survey.
What to watch out for: Reports of blown turbos on 530 diesel saloons may also apply to X5 3.0d.
Recalls: 31/1/2001 (cars built 21/9/2000-19/1/2001): possible fault with steering column joint. 16/11/2001 (built 11/11/2000-30/9/2001): fault with radiator fan motor could lead electrics to overload, fan motor to fail and a small electrical fire to result. August 2002: 56,000 X5s recalled worldwide because brake pedal shaft can work free (affects UK imports built up to 2001). 31/7/2002: Bush on brake pedal mounting shaft and pedal itself may come off (affects 1,971 cars). 3/2/2003: Front brake hose could rub on tyre. Clip to be fitted. 24/2/2003: Seatbelt tensioners may not be securely crimped.
Great thread, Thanks

Hi All!
New to the forum but not to BMW's. All started with inheriting a E53 3.0d X5 Sport at 23 years old, had a E92 M3 for a little while before stepping down to a E90 320i in exchange for a nice wedding but still kept the X5 as it just hit 40K miles after 13 years.

Hi
I am looking to buy a 330d and was wondering if you could help me with a few questions, please. What are my smartphone integration options (iphone 6) to at least allow playing and controlling music from the idrive (either usb or Bluetooth) with E91 330d m sport 2009 lci with new type CIC idrive, options included are below. Note it does not have the USB connector in the arm rest (there is only AUX IN in the arm rest and USB in the glove compartment). Would adding the cables (ebay links below) allow playing/controlling music from the phone?

The car’s got the shark antenna - but BMW dealer advised that the iphone 6 snapin that they have will not work in this car, is there a way to get iphone 6 to the snapin connector? What functions would that provide?

Hi Everyone, after a while looking for a Mercedes C250 and then test driving a BMW 330d I gave up on the Mercedes hunt and bought the 330d 2011 and I'm collecting it tomorrow. So here I am after trading in my Focus ST, I'm looking forward to browsing the forum and seeing what's going.
Regards, Rich :D

Hi,
I've just part exchanged my BMW 330d M Sport running 19 inch alloys. The dealer suggested I sell the winter boots separately.
They are Bridgestone Blizzaks, they aren't run flat so the ride quality is significantly better!
I bought these from Bowker BMW in Preston last winter and they were great.
I have 2 x 255/35 R19 and 2 x 225/40 R19 I have pics if required but they are in immaculate condition and they haven't had a puncture. If I hadn't part exchanged they would have gone on this year for sure.
Open to offers but collection will be from either Sheffield or Garstang, Lancashire.
Regards,
Dan

Hello to you all !
Has anyone here had any experience with a clutch change on a car of this kind of year and model ?
Has anyone used a company like Mr Clutch to carry out the work. Your thoughts please.
Kind Regards
ManEast

Hi all. Owner of a bmw e60 530d 2005.

Then it is probably the M43 engine which is pretty much the same as my 318i which has the M40 engine but with main difference is it is chain driven thus being better and not having to change the cam belt every 3 years as I do. This engine is fitted to my 316i compact which is coming up to 130000 miles and again has no issues and is still 'tight', I did replace water pump, thermostat and plastic coolant pipes as these can fail after a long period but as far as the main engine is concerned it is all good as it had regular oil/filter changes.
Hope this helps,Mick.
Hi, I have a 318i 1988 with 188,000 miles on it and it still runs very well and uses hardly any oil. As long as it has had regular oil changes, ie service history with it I can see no problem if the engine is reasonably quiet. What year is the car as this will determine what engine type it has as each engine has its own characteristic.
Mick
can you shw me pics it?

I had the same in my E90 330i - had the engine light reset and within a day or so came back on. Symptoms other than the engine light were some hesitations and slightly lumpy idle every now and then. I ended up pulling out he vanos solenoids and giving them a clean and swapping them when I put them back in - the fault code came back on but swapped from the exhaust to the inlet - therefore bought a new solenoid from BMW for £86 and changed the inlet solenoid for the new one and it seems to have worked so far. Very easy DIY (search online for some) and I would suggest getting a BMW code reader (about £35 off ebay) so you can reset or read fault codes. I believe that BMW have changed the solenoid design as off 2007 so you may find a new solenoid is an improved part? Also note mines the straight six engine so you may find your parts are a little cheaper? Good Luck Alex
Agreed with you

If the car was ok before it could well be the arm from the master cylinder or the release bearing has gone.

M5 F10 Monte Carlo Blue front bumper £400
interesting to it only, What that price includd shipping?

Presuming your bulbs are H7's I would try these instead.
If you convert to real Xenons you will need the headlight self levelling kit and headlight washers fitted to pass the MOT.
thanks for link advice
