I, too, have a 2000 and have just installed a cockpit wind blocker. You didn't mention whether your item is OEM or aftermarket. And I'm assuming by "wind deflector", you're not meaning a coupe/sunroof application. Regardless, there are several styles of both OEM and aftermarket items for Z3 Roadsters with and without roll hoops. Mine is an aftermarket item made of Lexan and held onto the roll hoops via Velcro straps. Installation is intuitive but pix available on Ebay help a lot.
