Illuminated gear knob? Sounds like you've caused a short!! Check for the wires that have touched, secure them, change the fuse, should be sorted!! One other possibiity, I had this problem with my E30 & my Z3, the headlight pull can be rotated to increase the dash illuminations..... certain positions, the lights just cut out, rotate it & you might find it's all working!!
