  1. This weird practice with naming isn't new, although it's certainly increased in its severity with the onslaught of FI cars. For older examples think E36 323, E46 320, E39 523 & 540. There are plenty more, unfortunately.
  2. Sounds exactly like the occupancy mat, as you've figured out. On the E39 there is only an occupancy sensor in the passenger seat, not the drivers. Not sure if the same applies to the E6x but I can't see why they'd change. The point of the sensor was to determine whether or not the passender side airbags needed to be deployed in the event of an accident - no point wasting ££££s airbags for an empty seat. The bypass "modules", will simply fool the car into thinking that someone's always in that seat, which could potentially be expensive if you have a crash. On older cars like mine, a crash that deploys airbags is likely to have written the car off anyway so I wouldn't be worrying about it. No such mat was fitted to the drivers seat as the driver is always likely to be there in an airbag event, obviously :P
  3. Thanks guys :) The plate was a bog standard 250 quid plate from the DVLA a few years ago. It was put on by the previous owner and to be honest, I've thought about reverting a few times. I'm not really a fan of personal plates unless there's something clever going on. BMW 248V obviously says a couple of things on the M so I decided to keep it for now :)

  5. I'll keep the story short for now, but I've been looking for a BMW specialist, in particular one that knows their way around an E36 M3 Evo. He (or she!) needs to be able to come to me, and this has been the stumbling block so far - no one is really interested in doing an on-site. I don't have a trailer / tow car to get my vehicle anywhere & I don't really want to pay for anything other than a specific job, which will probably be ~2 hrs work for someone good. Can anyone recommend someone? I basically need the timing done on the car. I have all the necessary tools, tea & bicuits. /edit If a mod reads this, I perhaps should have posted in this section. Feel free to move me :)
  6. I'm Pete from Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands. My baby is an E39 M5. Having done a year in the other BMW Car Club I thought I'd give this a try. I didn't get a lot out of the other membership if I'm honest so I'm hoping there's a bit more action on here. The Midlands/Central region seems to be a bit of a dead spot for this kind of thing unfortunately :(
