  1. merry Christmas everyone! yes all I want for Christmas is a reliable x5 ha ha ha
  2. id get the battery checked to see if its still serviceable, if I is give it a charge and check all lights work when its charged or you may have another prob. I went to check my battery and found it had burst its negative terminal and leaked everywhere and I also had loads of different errors and lights coming up on my dash when my battery died. lota of vehicles do weird and wonderful things when the battery is low so don't worry too much just yet
  3. I'm lucky I work at a main dealer fiat garage so got a nice warmish workshop to do it in! I had to change the battery on the roadside the other day though due to it failing and that was cold with no light in the pitch black! Let's hope none of us have the !Removed! flaps
  4. Few that's what I was told so haven't checked, definitely going to check now though as you've put the ceed of doubt in my head and last thing I want or need is an engine rebuild on my hands! Done all 4 rear arms/links on suspension today and have had enough of working on it for this month now lol. Keep us posted a nd ill take a look at mine tomorrow if I get a chance
  5. im 99% sure e53's don't have swirl flaps mate, only 3.0d that doesn't if im not mistaken
  6. hi there! need any help give me an email as ive had mine in bits the last few weeks of ownership and can prob anser most questions. what model and engine have you got?
  7. nicely done! welcome mate
  8. Think ive won the weirdest reason! I can fit my sons lt50 quad bike in the boot of my e53 and also its pimpin for not a lot of money. love everything except bmw seem to make their bushes in arms and suspension parts from fudge
  9. oh yeah definitely check all gearbox functions and listen out for a clonk when stopping as some people seem to have probs with first gear engaging early and jolting the vehicle which in most cases seems to require a rebuild which will be costly. and yes I fell for the on its only one sensor playing up and theyre 20 pound on ebay trick when the parking sensors played up at one point in the test drive! so far I haven't worked that one out but its going to be more than 20 pounds! if you get a listing from an advertisement let us know the number and may be able to point some usefull info out on it for you
  10. ive tried but the box that opens wont do anything! typed in the url but then ok or cancel or the x icon do nothing! might be my computer maybe
  11. e53 x5's don't have the swirl flaps! so ignore that mod, that egr bypass is cheap and nasty, find an aluminium one with a grnuine bmw gasket and that will ensure no future egr problems but what your describing is just what every diesel vehicle does, especially a heavy 4x4 model as it has a lot of vehicle to move. bit like when you floor a diesel car they smoke from little to total blackout behind just depends on driving style and vehicle maintenance. sounds like yours is fine and personally id leave it as is
  12. ive just bought a 2002 3.0d in black (is there any other colour option? lol) id suggest trying a few as I wish I had as the rear rose bushes and integral links were shot on this one and took me a while to do them then found a snapped bolt in the subframe where someone tried to replace the bushes in that, was very loose and almost swaying left and right over man hole covers etc and was horrific round potholed backroads, I test drove on a straight bit of smooth road and felt lovely so bear that in mind maybe? apart from that the usual for any car applies and don't get carried away at your first car viewing and buy it because its what you want, thell be more, also you ideally want the face lift model as they come with a more powerfull mapped engine and generally drive much better in my opinion although I love my pre facelift model now shes sorted
  13. yes the passenger wing has a large bolt on it, use that to connect the negative cable and the big red positive cap on the bulk head at back of engine bay on same side needs to have the positive lead placed on it then jump start the car or just use the other cars current to open the boot then crack on! be carefull moving the lpg tank though as im sure your ment to get a specialist to move them due to the pressurised gas inside. id do some homework on that before moving the tank as last thing you want is a fair few litres of compressed liquid gas spraying you in the face! its ice cold
  14. hi never had a bmw but just bought an 02 x5 3.0d. thought id join a forum as always a massive help and this one seems brilliant. I have already had mine in bits and replaced most of the suspension parts and now tackling a new fault the parking sensors so I may do a wright up on it depending on where and when I choose to tackle it. anyway I live in kent so anyone needs any help or if I need some im here! nathan
