I have seen people fit these themselves at shows, so should be easy (never done it myself)
You should find kits around, i personally would go for a better set then cheap and cheerful

My suggestion would be a good cleaner polish, then wax it using p222
seen here: http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/r222/100-carnauba-wax.aspx
I used P222 on all my cars and is wonderful stuff.. not the usual Halfrauds stuff.
Use the best cloths when cleaning, if you use a sponge for washing then get the best and when finished make sure you keep it clean of particles. Store in a plastic bag when not in use.
of course the best thing is to ensure you wash all the dust of your car before touching it with a sponge.
As for oils and fluids, use the best you can get, opie oils deliver oils to your door, very good company. http://opieoils.co.uk
If you have leather then use a good quality leather cleaner.
some tips, i am sure others will have other tips

I have created a meets section in the main forum.
We could try and see if we can drum up some meets through facebook, and other clubs.

did your rear diff have a leak? If you clumped the sump a few times then perhaps the diff also had a knock and broke the seal. This happened to me once before.
