Hi can anyone recommend a good quality OBD2 reader to keep the stealers at bay? I've had a quick look at Amazon but can't find one that works with the E46 320d 2004. I've got the dreaded DST light coming on with the handbrake light turning orange. Would an OBD2 reader point me in the right direction with this type of fault? Also is there a workshop manual anywhere that covers this model.

I have an E46 2004 320D ES, and bought the cable and software from these guys:

I can read all of the fault codes through the INPA software and clear them. Not seen your problem on mine, so cant comment.

From previous threads, I think you will be hard pushed to find a Haynes type manual, but the software included from BMcables has a TIS workshop manual, but again, i've never used it.

I think its good value for money. It was a pain to set up on Windows Vista, but apparently the new software is one click install and will work on Windows 7 and 8 as well.

Regards

John

Thanks for the info mate. I'll check out BMCABLES.COM.

Ebay has plenty... OBDI and OBDII are generic diagnostic ports with cross-manufacturer codes. You'll still need the BMW software to access the "Extra" codes, as do other manufacturers... HTH
