Fuel Gauge Reading E39 5 Series.

Hi there, I'm new to this particular forum and this is my first post. I have a problem with the accuracy of my fuel gauge Alpina (E39) whereas it will run out of fuel before the reserve light illuminates or sometimes even before (I now always have to carry a spare can of fuel). I have heard that this is not an uncommon issue with the E39. It hasn't always been like that and only seemed to occur when the pump was removed and replaced a couple of months ago. I know how to get into the OBC and re-set the dashboard. To try and improve /eliminate this issue can somebody advise me of how many times I should do a reset and when it should be carried out -- Thanks.

Hi , I have a similar problem with my B8 since I had a new tank sensor fitted .

I've been told that the only way to sort the problem out is to take the sensor out and re-fit it

again , but I can't be bothered with the hassle as it's a lengthy job to take the tank out .

My guess is that your B10 is similar unfortunately .

However , if you find out differently , I'd love to know :)

Chris

P.S. Are you member of the Alpina Register too ??

My E39 had a dodgy fuel gauge aswell. Same problem

As Chris said, all related to the sensor but it's alot work to get to it so many don't bother.
