has anybody any ideas on my bmw prob?

maybe once every 2 days for a split second the engine coughs for a milli second and a quick flash of the battery light, as i said for a milli second.

does not happen on tick over and yesterday had the beast on the diagnostic computer at the garage i use but it showed no prblems ?

machanic was stumped on this problem and thinks it may be a 400 quid repair replacing crank sensor and cam sensor..

has anybody any idea what it may be bmw 316ti 2003

thanks

Shot in the dark but could be alternator

Yank the battery out of the car, check that the seating is correct and re-install it. When re-installing, use some copper paste on the contacts and check the terminals can't 'arc' anywhere.

By arc I mean like my 316i had the same problem and it turned out to be a combination of the battery being mounted wonky and the previous owner didn't remove his Amp cable correctly causing the batteries power to jump across to it.

Hope this helps and get back to us with your findings

(Also +1 to David. Get a multimeter on that Alternator)

hi lads,

my intermittent battery light and splutter turned out to be a crank case sensor and squashed breather pipe!

still all done and i had a lambda sensor replaced while i was there and got relieved of 400 quid for the trouble.

Got quoted 800 at bmw for the same job so it took the sting out of it a little.

thanks for the feedback on the complaint i had and if you all manage to get a split second misfire and a battery light on for a flash it will be the crank sensor

Nice one for the feedback report :)
