Any suggestions as to what this could be? I had to change my coil pack as the car started misfiring and had erratic idle out of nowhere. The side of the coil pack on number 3 was slightly melted. I changed the pack and the HT leads and plugs but no joy. Number 3 isn't sparking. I checked it off the block. I even tried disconnecting battery and ecu to see if it needed to be reset but still no joy!

It's a 1998 e36 318i. Any advice appreciated. A mate in work reckons I've to get new ecu and another lad said maybe a sensor in the crankshaft

    If you replace the coil-pack, did you reset the computer codes... Or even try disconnecting the battery for 1hr+...

    Nope don't have the gear to reset codes. I disconnected the negative for 30 mins. That not long enough? Should I disconnect it completely ?

    Leave it off over night,although the code readers can be brought for about 40 quid,amd plug into your lap top
