No boost and strange noise
Hi Dave I was nervous before about having the DPF tampered with, even more so now. They removed the turbos last week and sent them off for refurb this week while they are on holiday. I'll speak to them on Monday and ask them not to mess with the DPF. I had the EGR and cooler replaced by a main dealer about 2 years / 8k miles ago and that's when the problems with burning oil smell in the cabin started. Last year I read online that a burning oil smell is not uncommon with the N47 due to oil leaks from the valve cover onto the exhaust. It's hard to see the edge of the valve cover because of the vacuum tanks and control devices but I had a look underneath and noticed the DPF was covered in oil. When I hooked up my scanner to bleed the fuel system I noticed codes relating to exhaust temp upstream of the cat. I replaced the sensor and all seemed well, then the EGR air plausibility codes started, then the charging pressure control and then limp mode. I'll make sure I take it for a decent run regularly. If the turbos last another 50,000 miles they'll probably outlive me. Cheers Jim -

Dash Warning
Ah so it is oil, thankfully I checked this and all good. I'll make a mental note to change this at oil change time. Thanks for the advice. -

No boost and strange noise
Hi Jim My experience with my own E70 3.0d which I brought very cheap as an MOT fail due to DPF being tampered with. Is the EGR had become clogged and that had caused the same situation as your in, the old owner removed the EGR and DPF then fitted a refurbished Turbo. The MOT fail drove him over the edge and he just wanted rid of the car. I got a used EGR and cooler plus a used DPF from Quarry Motors, had both professionally cleaned then fitted and a little faffing around reprogramming and I have a very cheap E70 3.0sd which has passed 3 MOT's now. For information I brought the E70 as a project and to keep the miles down on my E53 4.6is. Most of my journeys these days are less than 10 or 15 miles but once a week I give it a Motorway run of about 45mins and so far so good. As said if an MOT Station suspect the car has been tampered with it's a fail. As your DPF has been regenerating personally I would keep it Good luck Dave -

No boost and strange noise
Morning Dave I'll bear that in mind. I do the occasional long run but maybe need to do so more regularly. The car didn't smoke and according to my scan tool the DPF have been regenerating. When the turbo guy explained that the root cause was the DPF and said he could "cure" it, I asked about the risk of MOT failure. He reckons that the emissions without a DPF are way below the limit and that his particular fix is not detectable. I'm not so sure now. He said something about drilling a hole somewhere but that doesn't sound like it's undetectable to me... -

Aircon specialist in South East?
Hi Ken Wow lucky man 😁 As the car has been stored and Aircon systems loose a little each year anyway my first thought would be try getting it serviced (Kwik fit have summer deals) The machines used vacuum out and check for leaks if it wont hold a vacuum the machine wont try and re=gas the system. My local BMW Specialist has a mobile guy come in (£65 for my E70) Good hunting for a specialist Dave
