I have a 2017 bmw 1 series. The stereo has got a fault all of a sudden. It turns on and plays and about 15 seconds later, turns off and restarts. And this just happens over and over. Disconnect centre controls, the screen etc. and it still does it. I’ve just ordered a new unit with the same part number. When I fit this, will it need programming? And is there a way to do this without visiting a dealer? Thank you. 

sounds like a loose connection maybe? double and triple check the wiring.

I thought that but had all wired out and back in. Also it’s very consistent. So I can time it from turning on to cutting off, and it’s the same everytime while the car is stationary. I’ve checked all the fuses too. It made me think something happens within the unit, at that set time when it’s turned on, and that’s faulty so at that point it turns off and restarts. I’m hoping the new unit will plug in and work but have read mixed posts about programming
