After me and my buddy going through many built and drifted Jap cars, we've decided that for this summer's project we're gonna go German. We have a max budget of £1000 for the car itself, including towing it if it's a non-runner, but my main question is which damn model to go for?! BMW love making their model's a PITA to understand for a new-comer, hence why I'm asking for some advice here. I have my eye on a 3 Series 323i (2.5l straight six, 5-speed, petrol) but was wondering if there's a better model to go for when it comes to drifting? My main concern is buying one with electric steering rather than direct; does anyone know after which year BMW started making this? Should I ditch the idea of a 3 series altogether and go for a different model instead? We ain't fussed about looks necessarily, but it needs to drive solid without a load of electrical assist crap. Cheers guys! B)

Hi and welcomeeee

There are many E36s (90's 3 series) around in the drift seen and for very good reason i suspect. Quite versitile beasts.

If you put a gun to my head and made me choose i would probably swing to the E34 (early 90's 5 series) as it's big n chunky to throw around to get those much enjoyable Gs. it being an early 90's motor, it's limited in complicated modern electronic rubbish so it's good to just strip and run. The late Giorgi Tevzadze's weapon of choice was an E34 M5 ;)

Food for thought:
