Hi all

Just need a little advice if i may. Basically i bought a 2001 320d touring. Tbh i really like it, very comftable. Yet there are a couple nagging things i have found.

First, the rear wiper doesnt work and im not sure if this is a common fault or not.

And secondly which is the big one is that im told that the front cat pipe is cracked. Im being told that its a minimum of a 400 quid job. Can anybody verify that? Just want to make sure that im not going to be ripped off.

And through my own fault i need a new front bumper lol

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Hi Damian...

Rear Wiper - If you don't have a tester to check continuity then... Strip-out the panel and run a separate live to the motor to see if that operates it, if it does then it'll be a switch/fuse/wiring fault.

Catalytic converter - These babies are NOT cheap :(

Sad news lol. Was hoping that somebody was just trying to make more money off me lol. Thing is the car i actually think is worth it. I have a mate who runs a bodywork shop so i was going to get all the little marks taken out etc.... Think i may just keep shopping around and just get it done lol

Thanks for the reply though, much appreciated.

400 quid IS high mate, more like half that !

See 200 i could live with easily lol. Just on the last service the guy wrote on the receipt 'cat front pipe cracked'

Maybe just the down-pipe itself then, have it welded ;)

+1 with Jim on the cat, quite possibly a welding job if just cracked and no corrosion.

Just had it looked at. Completely ruined lol, 520 to sort out. Im looking at alternatives lol

Go get other quotes, bud. £520 for one section of exhaust plus cat is crazy. Go to a welding specialist and see if they can quote you for rebuilding the existing cat with a new pipe section? There is a great company down here in East Dorset called Tricketts Welding who are magicians, maybe you've got someone similar up there?
