Hi all I am hoping for a bit of advice not had much look on other forums I have a 2004 120i 89000 miles the engine managment light has come on I can not feel any diffrence in engine or drive not to say there is not one I just have not felt it I payed at a garage for diagnostic and the codes were

2f9e thermal oil level sensor

2a63 valvertronic server motor

29cc misfire multiple cylinders

29cd misfire cylinder 1

2b63 camshaft sensor exhaust

They diagnosed it as the timing chain had slipped £600 to repair the light went out I started to drive home the light came back on almost straight away so when I got home I used a friends tester wich is only small hand held cheap one and only one code this time

Po366 camshaft position sensor b circuit range performance bank 1 no other codes surley if the chain had slipped I would have rough idle ect can any one help before I pay £600 for something that may not be the problem

Faulty CPS (Cam Sensor) will throw ALL those codes simply because it is shot !

It WILL seem like it runs sweet as a nut but tells DMA/ECU otherwise, this will also affect emissions as it will "argue" with lambda  :o :D

Check lambda bank afterwards too :)

Hi Jim and thanks a lot for your reply I took the electrical connectors of the vanos solinoids and cleaned them as there is a bit of oil on them think they need new I rings but the light went out so I thought that was that but today stopped for fuel and as soon as I started it again back on the first time it came on same thing stopped for 5 mins and when restarted light came on would you stil say can sensor thanks again

I know this isn't helping your problem, and perhaps I'm being the usual extinct dinosaur, but in all my many many years of driving I've never heard of a timing chain "slipping". Rattling when seriously shot, yes, even snapping when completely shot, but slipping? Fan belts slip, how would a chain slip a tooth, would need to have massive play which would have sounded like someone had dropped a bag of nails into the engine somehow? I hope you've been straight back to the garage to notify them their £600 job has done nothing and you expect them to get sorted?

Hi ok went into BMW they said crankshaft sensor £200 please sir ten mins down road back on again arrrrrrrrrrr they are now talking about vanos units and timing they said there's a leak on rocker rocker gasket and vac pump any ideas please help thanks for replys they also said it could be a air problem very confused

More than likely would struggle to start/run if the Crank sensor had failed...

When was last main service? Could be something as simple as the sump pick-up filter !!

Are there any warnings in the Info display?

Hi don't no when last serviced as just bought the car just picked up from BMW for second day they still have no idea they said might stay of but it has come straight back on again only diffrence is now telling me to add 1 litre oil not had that one before the oil has been reading in the middle now I really am baffled why are BMW not getting any codes or seeing this happening I am going to service it now

How weird is that? I mention oil and the car asks for it !!

Maybe the oil in her is that crap, its fouling sensors... Who knows? They don't and they've been round it !!

How about flushing the whole oil system? Got to be worth a shot, as opposed to shelling out another few hundred to those muppets !!
