Just want to say hello, i'm Jason and live in Norwich, Norfolk.

I have recently bought a beauty of a 1991 BMW 325i E36. The first owner bought it from Neeps of Colchester, Essex and had this dealership service and MOT it up until July this year. It has every MOT and receipt including Sales Invoice as well as a fully stamped up service book.

Mr Jarrold (1st owner) decided in October that he was getting too frail to keep his prized BMW so asked his nephew who lives in Norwich to sell it for him, unfortunately 6 weeks ago he passed away aged 92 years.

I bought it last Monday having seen it parked on a road near my house and it's a joy to have, it needs some slight work the rear arches are only starting to rust and it has been booked into the bodyshop in early February. Then it's going to be garaged (as per from new) and only used for the Summer/Show season.

      EXTERIOR MIRRORS AND CAR WASHES

      Yesterday as I was going thru a car wash in my M440, one of the spinning brushes snagged my driver side mirror and pulled of the mirror cover piece. It was flopping around in the spraying water, held on by only a wire lead. Later, in the wind tunnel section, I actually lowered the window, put my arm out and held on to it. Otherwise I think the winds would have finished pulling it off. I had the mirrors in the folded back position and I think the problem is related to the mirror design, as it has a projecting "fin" which, when the mirrors are folded back, is sticking straight forward, making them easy to snag. Anyone here relate to this, or have any recommendations. This time it didn't do any damage, no paint scratches, and the cover simply snapped back on, but it makes me nervous about future occurrences. Any one know of any aftermarket mirror of a different design, as I would consider a change out.

      cruise control switches

      Morning Don Welcome to the Forum Below is a Graphic from BMW's parts catalogue for your car it shows the position of components and their part numbers. As I understand it the in a manual there will be switches by the clutch and brake pedal so that if either are operated the Cruise disconnects. It appears that all Cruise Control components are here operate from the throttle A case of testing each component bridging cables for continuity if a faulty item is found use the Part number for a replacement search and the best price Hope this helps Dave P.S.       4 Series Convertible - water collection in sills issue !

      Hi: There is a detailed article on facebook dealing with this problem. It requires removing the outer cover of the door sill (water may pour out) and notching it to match the actual drain hole in the sill. Simple solution. Don't understand why BMW hasn't notched the sills at the factory! I have a 2021 430i convertible and don't know if my car has the same problem. I have to lay down on the ground and check. The sill cover notch has to line up with the drain in the sill.

      cruise control switches

      I have a 2000 z3 2.5l with left side drive/US model. the cruise control worked intermittent for a few yrs then quit altogether. check fuse #46/good, then figured I would replace the switches down by the clutch pedal. no one here knows anything about them. one switch is to the left of the pedal and the other is to the right; both have a 3 wire connector. i would like to know what are they called and perhaps a part # and a source other than BMW/astronomical to buy them. thank you

      4 Series Convertible - water collection in sills issue !

      Hi Mike, Thank you for responding. Unfortunately you have been the only person to respond to my shout out concerning this problem - Im starting to think this is just me that this has happened to or that anybody else just gets on with it without complaining ! In answer to your queries, I believe the water ingress happens with natural rain/water hose falling on the car and seeping down the rubbers of the top canopy/windows...they are not impervious to water and in most other cars it is directed away from collection. Unfortunatelly the 4 series convertible was made without a means of sufficient drainage and eventually it causes a flooding/failure of the said window winder mechanism. My advice would be to go to your local BMW garage or specialist BMW service garage and get advice/action to deal with this problem before it gets expensive and have no recompense from BMW !! Please let me know how you get on and what you are told/advised by the garages involved. Cheers for now, Julian
