Hi all

I have an S redg 98 E46 318i se saloon and when its warmed up I get a nocking from the centre of the car (underneath handbrake) when acelerating, no stange sounds when doing 80 on the motorway though. No winning sounds either.

I think it could be the propshaft centre bearing.

Would I do better getting a used propshaft of Ebay or would it be easier to just change the centre bearing?

All reccomendations much appreciated.

Sounds to me like your "Propshaft Coupling" as it is right under the hand brake.

You will also get a noise from down there if your transmission mounts have failed.

In my case, I had a 7 series that knocked under the armrest for about 40 seconds when cold. It turned out to be a snapped exhaust hanger on one of the rear back boxes. The snapped hanger caused the box to hang freely pulling on the rest of the exhaust. It caused the exhaust to rub on the transmission.

the best thing you can do is perform a visual inspection of the Coupling. Check it's condition for any wear.

I strongly discourage you to re-use bearings or rubbers. If either have failed, buy 'New'.
