  2. I recently purchased a 2007 530i Touring with a panoramic sunroof. However, the sunroof only tilts. I assumed this was a fault so took it to my local specialist but they say that it's a non-slide sunroof, it just tilts. Did BMW make a panoramic sunroof that doesn't slide for this model? The specialist did no exploratory work, and I can't help but think they're wrong. It's very odd, as the sunshade also doesn't go all the way back, it stops about half way, meaning the rear half of the sunroof would never be seen. I just can't imagine why BMW would design a sunroof like this - surely it's faulty. Any assistance very welcome indeed!
  3. Hello Zat Welcome to the Forum Is your Warranty/Protection plan with BMW or an Aftermarket Company ? If it is an After market Warranty then they will just require proof of service to support the Warranty. There is a register of BMW Specialist's in the UK Google will help generally their Labour rates are around half that of BMW Dealers but they do have the knowledge and equipment to carry out all service and repairs needed Experience tells me most Service our selves statements mean Oil and Filter as the cars iDrive system records service intervals against time/distance it probably hasn't been touched. Even Dealers tend to record the service electronically and on the iDrive these days so you may have to ask for the service book to be stamped 😁 Progress Personally I have never trusted Extended service intervals and always carry out a full service annually Good Luck with finding a Specialist and enjoy your new car Dave
  4. Hi John In the late 70's through the 80's we had a business and by buying some Company cars and Leasing others we were able to indulge ourselves I had a couple of Cosworth's the last being a Cosworth Sapphire which I didn't have long before it was stolen (they were top of the list in those days) That was a Lease car and when they offered a replacement our insurers gave a quote that was almost the cost of the car !!!! They offered me the Carlton (Chassis 32) instead and the insurers accepted it (I will never figure that out) Had a few Volvo's all estates my wife loved them for pulling the Horse trailer and plenty of room in the back for children and dogs. Started with 760's then 960 then the 850 T5 and 850R MK1 V70 T5 x4 then V70 T5 AWD and T6. All the Volvo's were Auto Then in 2000 my wife suffered shoulder damage and found the Volvo's heavy to park we found the Subaru Outback to be super light on steering so that is where she has stayed I brought the first X5 not long after to pull the Horses. A wife and daughter with horses I sometimes thought divorce was a plan 🤣🤣 Children all grown up and away from home so now we just have more Horses and Dogs (I don't ride just pay) 😂
  5. Then you need the same box or you will need the skills and equipment to re program the gearbox ECU so it can communicate with the Engine DDE and several other of the cars ECU's The box that is in there has the fluid level been checked ? If a bump causes disconnect I would also check the loom Take a look at www.realoem.com it is an online BMW parts list put the last 7 digits of the Vin into the search box it will call up your Model. Then search the gearbox section, if you double click the part number (in Blue) it will bring up a list of other models the box was used in, if nothing their then choice is limited I am afraid Dave
  6. Hi again Dave. Truly - my pretend "boy racer" days are long long over and now I am able to simply enjoy what I couldn't afford all those years ago;mortgage;three daughters and the completely broken dream of stability when divorce raised the "hurdles" even higher ! Interesting that you isolated/identified the Lotus Carlton in your comparisons ! A truly awesome car and sadly something that I could never ever afford or justify at the time. My car (Estate car) that I had for many years and only really afforded by using it legitimately for my business activity and having it fitted with a tow bar and twin electrics for when my then 8' x 4' twin axle trailer was called in to collect furniture for reupholstery and or delivering newly constructed hand built traditionally built upholstered furniture. The car was a first generation V70 T5 CD Auto in Aquamarine Turquoise which came on the back of and after a brief spell of running a Volvo 850 Auto Estate - I went on to run a further 5 V70's with both petrol and diesel power;the latter three all with the Geartronic auto boxes.
  7. Hi all Need a recommendation of an individual or garage in the Gloucester Area who knows about BMW engines and who might be willing to look at it. on the codes it mentions that cylinders 4 and 5 have a misfire!! Thanks
  8. I need a recommendation for my situation. I bought a 2018 BMW 530e with 59,080 miles from a private seller who acquired it from a car auction at a private school. The school provides cars to directors and auctions them every five years. The car's service history includes: December 2019: Minor service (oil and oil filter change, micro-filter) at 21,000 miles. May 2021: Major service (oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, micro-filter change) at 41,000 miles. According to the school’s auction administration, subsequent services were performed by their handyman using BMW parts, not by a dealer, and they cannot provide a detailed service history for these. The iDrive system indicates that the next service is due in June 2025 or in 11,000 miles. However, I purchased a three-year protection plan that requires servicing the car every 12 months or 12,000 miles from the plan's activation date. Given this situation, should I pay £800 for a service at a BMW dealer now, or wait until the iDrive system indicates service is due in June 2025 or in 11,000 miles? Can I trust that the school performed the services, or is there a risk they may have simply reset the iDrive service dates? Is it possible for anyone to reset iDrive without servicing car?
  9. The repair costs are between 600 e-2200e, it depends on the problem, I am looking to make a Swap,i bought the car with a broken box...
  10. Morning Mike Welcome to the Forum You could try disconnecting the Battery (Neg lead first) for about 30 mins (a Dealer trick) if that doesn't reset things then a Diagnostic session may be the only way Good Luck Dave
  11. Morning Veigar Welcome to the Forum The box in your car should be 5 speed ZF A5S440Z it may be cheaper to service/repair the box than look for a replacement. When was the box last serviced? ZF advise service every 60 to 100k (kilometres) If you were thinking of an upgrade there is a lot of work including ECU matching Good Luck Dave
  12. Very nice looking car John I hope you enjoy it as much as your 325 Strange how sometimes the way the car develops and delivers it's power can feel so different. I owned a Whale tale Cosworth that felt fairly ordinary until 3k then hold tight, two E55 AMG's that were brutal yet the CLS 63 AMG despite having nearly 200hp more never felt like the 55's (made it easy to collect points if you weren't careful) The only car I have had that felt really strong was the Lotus Carlton it always felt like it was delivering every ounce of power My X5 4.6is was mildly tuned (uprated Cams and Throttle body) acceleration is instant, the Diesel needs to be above 2.5k before it starts to move. I had both cars at Goodwood a couple of years ago and lap times were within tenths yet the V8 always felt faster. Get the 635 rolling road tested just so you know it's delivering as it should maybe even an ECU tune The main thing is ENJOY it Dave

  14. Hi ,i have a BMW e38 3.0d 2001 ,I have an automatic gearbox and I would like to change it because I have problems when I go back, it doesn't work when I hit the smallest bump, I would like to change it with another gearbox but I don't know what other gearbox it would be compatible (e39 3.0d, x53 3.0d?) which gearbox do I have on the BMW e 38? 5hp or 6hp?
  15. Hi again Dave. Well the deal is done and collection is scheduled for Saturday 15th June in the afternoon. The colour of the car is Deep Sea Blue Metallic with a Black Dakota Leather interior. I am rather surprised in finding that the 635d Auto is not as rapid as was my recently sold Mercedes Benz SLK 350 Auto and yet the insurance on the BMW 635d is group 50A and the Mercedes SLK 350 was group 43A. I had also seriously considered a Mercedes SL 350 Auto and that was also a group 50A car. The SL 350 was the most sluggish/less rapid of all three and I am blowed if I can get my head around the much lower insurance rate for the SLK 350 Auto.
  16. Hi. I have a 220i F45 active tourer. I need to reset my idrive cos some of my settings are not working. I've pressed the volume button for 70 minutes as advised, I also pressed the the mode and volume together. Any advice please ?

  18. Morning Duncan Welcome to the Forum Ooops some trim removal required to change it not heard of the bezel breaking changed a few on earlier cars that were faulty Good Luck Dave
  19. Morning Kelvin Welcome to the Forum Which Temp Sensor ? If you are looking at the Coolant sensor Yellow with a Red trace and Black I believe Dave
  20. Last week
  21. Hi again Dave. That is an interesting bit of info about the X5. I was looking at buying one some years ago when I was towing the Elddis Crusader Super Sirocco but being only 4'10" tall with an inside leg measurement of 23" the floor was a long way off of my feet and having had a total left knee replacement I risked doing some damage if I landed awkward- so I stayed with my Volvo V70 Auto's. Yes I will hold on to the E46 and see what happens when the insurance for the E63 comes up for renewal. The initial change of policy from the C220 CDI Avantegard Auto Estate at £90.00 will allow me time for a proper Summer and Autumn time appraisal before the renewal is due in November.
  22. The 50e I HAD did not have the trailering package from the factory and would not allow a weight distribution hitch with sway control. Because of that, I now have a 2025 X5 XDrive 40i with the factory towing package that will allow the weight distribution/ sway control hitch. This works well.
  23. To wrap this up, - my X5 was stolen from my driveway a few weeks ago. The white smoke at start-up is now somebody else's problem. ( Probably a turbo oil seal. ) The car was moved to a secluded location and the built-in tracker was disabled. The BMW app showed it about 5Km from my house but when the police went there there was no car to be found. I'd put a new transfer box into it which was €5K but thankfully didn't have the turbo reconditioned (€2k). Waiting for the insurance money. Probably will go for a 2019 3 Series 330i hybrid. My days of sitting high at the lights are over :-(
  24. Great information regarding towing. I have the 2024 x5 50e. I am curious as to what drive mode you use while towing, hybrid I assume?
  25. Well, my 2016 X5 was stolen from my driveway last month. They got into my house and took the spare key. I used the BMW app to locate the car about 5 Km from my home but that was the location where the thieves disabled the tracker and moved the car on. Probably in parts now, or in a container bound for Dubai. Jokes on them though. The turbo is due to let go any day now...
  26. Hi anyone know the colour of the 2 wires on the plug for the temperature sensor on a 2016 bmw f21 lci . Thanks in advance
  27. I’ve recently had a brake service, they’ve noted the rear pads needs replacing indicated as red and rear discs on amber. The car has currently done 24k, I’m curious why the rear discs and pads have gone already. im wanting to find out if anyone else has had this issue, also if anyone know the minimum thickness for each? The car is 1 series f40 2021 image stating current results
