  1. On a standard rwd BMW driven normally ie not sideways, the front tyres last much longer as they are not slipping / spinning and the rears go much quicker, let's say the fronts last ten times longer. Now take an x drive with 60/40 default split of power, do the fronts wear 4 times faster than rwd but you compensate by less wear on the rears or is that school boy logic.
  2. I have always has manual gear boxes on my BMWs and seen a few nice auto versions. Has anyone mainly driven manuals and then had an auto. Did you regret it or never looked back? PS I am asking from a drivers perspective who likes to use revs on the open road vs someone who just wants to float around town Any comments welcome
  3. I have always had manual cars including 4 BMW's but have seen a few used ones which are nice but have auto boxes. Anyone here had manuals and then switched to auto? Would you have another or do you prefer manuals. The smooth easy driving style sounds appealing but I also love holding onto gears and pushing up the rev range ( diesels ). Any comments welcome
  4. Currently own a 120d and considering an x drive version. Can anyone who has driven both tell me their thoughts. While I want something safe, I also like a little edge ie the back end twitch etc. Is the x drive version a bit more dull ie feels too safe and non twitchy. Also I know the x drive version will prob grip better in the wet but it's it much better in snow with normal ie non winter tyres. What is the split between front wheels and rear wheels or does it vary. Also I am used to the rear tyres wearing much quicker than the front. Do you find all 4 going on the x drive or its it near enough the same as rear wheel drive
