  1. The system works by scanning the overall diameter of the wheels, that's how it doesn't spot tiny differences such as would occur when you add a few PSI to the tyres. Follow the instructions to re-set the TPM and then drive off and all should be ok.
  2. Good stuff but I think you should give more importance to the issue of oil consumption. The N14 engine is well known for being oil thirsty and the Cooper S can be a right pain. Also, the dipstick is very tricky to read accurately. For what it's worth, my view is that many people fail to check their oil regularly, if at all, and are shocked when they encounter major engine problems when the level drops below the minimum. I think this is probably why Mini have never carried out a timing chain recall as they believe that most of these issues have been caused by low/non-existent oil ! As you may know, the official view is that 1 litre per 1,000 miles is ok.
