I have had the same problem on my x5 sorted it out no problem just need to take out the fuel gauge senders from under the rear seat (one on either side) clean the contact board and neddles with wire wool and clean with alcohol job sorted saved me £££ hope this helps anyone that’s got this problem as it had my head in bits not a hard job at all
