Active hybrid 3, 40000 mile service. Is thef ZF 8hp transmission service necessary?
Haven't see a lot about AH3 servicing yet to be honest but oh my that is expensive for a service and enough to put a lot of people of buying one I should think! They must be having a laugh at £290 for fluid... how many litres does it need? Can't be that many? No way should transmission oil cost more than engine oil. Does it contain special whale semen that lubricates the gearbox more effectively or something.... crazy!

Hmm interesting question - not 100% sure on that. Does the car have bulb failure detection at the moment? Just a random thought - if you do have problems couldn't you connect up a trailer socket and effectively use the feed for that to power universal type lights? Also, what type of custom car or what sort of thing are you building out of interest?

Dash cam
Hi Patrick, Firstly, the 512G is a good dash cam - I have one myself so can vouch for it. Don't worry too much about the parking mode - the camera isn't designed to be on all the time as it would drain your battery. The 512G has a built in rechargeable battery and a motion detector so if there is movement around the car it should detect it and run on the internal battery. They're quite easy to install yourself using the fusebox. You just need to find a fuse that comes on and off with the ignition and preferably is not for a very important function. Halfords use these fitting kits: http://www.halfords.com/technology/dash-cams/dash-cams/nextbase-incarcam-hardwire-kit You could do that yourself - it just plugs into the fuse box once you have located a fuse to use and you can earth it to a bolt etc. Hardest bit is running the wires behind the trim in more modern cars but it shouldn't be too hard. Hope that helps

What happened with the 545i? Can't you fit a newer better chain tensioner on the 520d?

Alpine Audio upgrade
Sounds good didn't realise this was offered at dealers. As above how much did it cost?

Definitely go for some nicer/bigger alloys. Personally I'd look for some from a sportier 135i m sport etc. Also think about tinted rear windows perhaps?

Go for a remap such as bluefin by superchips rather than a chip. It actually changes the map completely rather than tricking the car with a little box. Plus you can always revert to standard if required! Yes it will help for towing. Not sure if you have the 2.9 or the 3.0 diesel? Looking on superchips site the 2.9 for example will give an additional 32bhp and 130nm of torque: http://www.mybluefin.co.uk/search?make=3&fueltype=2&model=280&variant=1627 That extra torque will really help towing. Don't go expecting much from just a panel filter though. Will make a marginal difference but not a lot. Possibly worth it when combined with the remap though as you can pick them up fairly cheaply. Also check out K&N too.

Cost of timing chain tensioner?
Yes it's a common fault on the N43 engine. There is a modified tensioner that can be fitted - think it's around £30-40 to purchase.

Could be the light control module in the driver's foot well if all the bulbs are fine. Seems to be a common issue on these.
