  1. Hi cannot believe I'm asking but does anyone know how to change the front lamp beams on a 1983 6 series, they don't look like sealed units Rich
  2. that is a stunning motor ! I dion't know what its worth but I've seen one in green go for around £17500
  3. Same happened to me, I had accident damage, they quoted price for new parts on a thirty yr oLd car, I let them wright it off, then bought it back at 30 percent, in the end I sourced all second hand part, got the labour done and resprayed all for half the price they quoted. I broke even tho on value. Def worth taking money for wright off, buy it back and get a second hand hood. Good luck
  4. Have u had the dizzy checked? I've had similar issues, I've had a new dizzy and I've adjusted the tick over by turning the unit. This helped somewhat but only by fitting a new air flow meter have I seemed to solved the problem, but it's an on going concern that I'm working through, trying one thing at a time
  5. Ok mate, thAts great about the adjustment. It definitely fits inverted, did you see the picture I posted, basically if u go on ebay and search e24 and look at the engine shots nearly all have the conversion due to the expense of the e24 units. I'll attempt it this weekend now I know about the adjustment and I'll let you know how I got on. Thanks again for your help. Also I cannot find the MEETS info on the website, I know others have asked this as well
  6. Hi Daz, I certainly do remember, after you altered the dizzy I had the tapets all set and the engine tuned, but it always had the slight putting because the air was struggling through the air mass meter. So when I invert the e28 unit will it simply be plugging in it and off I go, or will it need adjusting in someway, if so how? Thanks
  7. Hi, I have an E24, the chap at the garage said the air flow meter is turned up to the max and cannot give any more so a replacement needs to be sought. This results in it running a bit lumpy. An A.f.m. Isbetween 100 and 500 quid, the 100 is a second hand untested, so I'm reluctant to part with the funds. I have acquired an E28 unit which comes from a trusted breakers, but they don't fit them themselves. There's loads of pictures of e24's on ebay and when you look close at the engine you can see the e28 unit which fits inverted. See attached. Does any one have experience of fitting such a unit to the e24, how was it attached to prevent vibration, is it a s simple as merely reconnecting or is there an adjustment required, which obviously when fitted upside down is going to be difficult. Any advice on fitting mass air flow units greatly appreciated. Richard
  8. Hi I looking at buying a 330d, about 8 years old with about 80k on the clock. I'm used to older bm's so this is a new experience for me. can anyone give me any advice on things that I should look for and or questions I should ask the seller. Thanks in advance
  9. Advice to you all - dont let your wife drive your cherished 30 year old BMW in the rain - mine was put through a wall on Friday and I am gutted, lucky that no-one else was involved or hurt though. Just got to hope the insurance man wants to repair it !!

  10. Hi jumping in on the back of this, my 628 timing went and I lost all power up to about 30mph to the point where actually it would not start, GAV on the forum sorted this for me and we got power back but its been running lumpy and rattling. I since have had the tappets fully adjusted and the air flow was adjusted and power is back and the rattling resolved - it purrs like a kitten. Never had the black smoke tho. Never realised how much those tappets would affect the overall running - may be worth getting someone to loo - its an hours job
  11. Hi All Just wanted to give a big shout to Gav for all his help getting the 30 year old 6 series running again and also to Daz for his help over the phone. Thats the problem with these old cars - over 30 years with different mechanics doing different non standard work with non standard parts takes its toll, but it goes to show there is nothing better than someone who cares about these good old machines ! I took it to work and back today and its running sweet ! Thanks again guys - awesome !
  12. Quarry Motors - yeah that's right - they got their own breakers there as well so its good for parts - like I said tho - labour is costly but then they are experts. Gav - sound mate, that would be great - is it worth me trying to get some of that replacement pipe in the meantime- the one with the bodge hole in it?
  13. Hi, yes I think your right, but no nothing has been butchered on it, but i doi agree it is a strange set up of vac hoses. The last lot of work done was the over heating and it had whole coolant system and new top and front heads with replaced rockers. It was Quarry motors in Sheffield and they know their stuff - expensive - but clever so I am as surprised to see the butchered hose issues. I'm hoping to get a picture on later for you all to see it.
  14. this is great guys, thank you all for your help, Gav - cant thank you enough for your time and effort today !!
