Hello,
So I made the jump and bought a classic E24 highline. No regrets, shes quite clean for 25 years old. Its in the garage at the moment sorting everything engine wise.

Issue's were
Oil leak
Manifold gasket required as blowing which led to finding that manifold bolt needed drilling out.
This led to find that the camshaft was worn so replaced cam and rockers whilst it was in bits replaced the timing chain and associated parts as well.
Rear hubs required due to reluctor rings corroded.
Passenger seat required new switch as faulty, the previous owner provided.
Minor rust on the sills, sunroof and small amount of bubbling around the near side rear tail light.
Got all fluids checked and replaced as well.
I think that was everything.
