  1. As far as i know this tool is vital to do many jobs on this chain driven engine ,dont think its like my transit where a couple of old bolts can be pushed into holes to time up . Many garages refuse to work on this engine because its so techy.
  2. Found several now - One on pistonheads at £175 and new one at Rapidonline £195 . lots of dosh for a possibly only use once venture.
  3. My mechanic needs timing kit for a BMW 316Ti compact he has in garage a 51 Plate , Seems its either Laser or Sealey that supply the kits are there any others and is it available to hire anywhere ? Laser is kit number 4419 and Sealey is kit number VSE5911 . We have found lots some as high as £350 lowest seems to be approx £200 . Is there anybody on here that has one lying about in garage willing to turn it into cash . We are Manchester area .
  4. Had my Monza and Senator on classic insurance for the whole period i have owned them through Ad/Flux and your competitor Lancaster .but they are 1985 Monza and 1988 Senator is there an age when BMWs qualify ? seem to remember it was 15 yrs with the 2 mentioned .
  5. That looks a bit of a shed - The car i refer to is pretty mint - Dont think the wheels are anything above 15" though - Colour is similar but i think its a lighter blue than that .
  6. Details in another post regards my imminent aquiring of 318 . I remember my Brother bringing the car to show it off when he first bought it as he did with his many new cars over the years .I remember distinctly going for a lengthy test drive in this BM over fast winding country roads and boy was i impressed ,To say it is only 1800cc it drives way above its weight regards performance and boy does it like the winding roads - think its possibly the best equal driver car i have ever driven on par with my 3.0 Monza .He brought fairly shortly after his new Vaux vectra V6 and though it was on a similar level performance wise it didnt come close in the handling dept . Dont know all the facts about BMW because it is 14 yrs ago we discussed the finer points but it was a top of the ranger type car with all the trick bits it cost him 24k back then Full leather (Black) and has body shape like M3 not sure if suspension was also an upgrade . Its an s reg 2 door in dark blue does anyone remember the said model type and what specs it is likely to have .
  7. Senator still is a proper car 3-0 straight six 180bhp and this has only done 70k engine is mint although does drink petrol at a fair rate - Saw it at Tatton Classic car show 6/7 yrs ago and it was like new i told owner if he ever sold it to let me know and wrote my tel number on a !Removed! packet . Jeeeez 2 yrs down the line the bloke rings and i purchase ,went 4 yrs passing mot without a single advisory .Last mot it failed on some rust at back end of cill so had new metal welded in and it then passed . I have the Coupe version Badged - Opel Monza GSE only about 30 still on the rd.
  8. May not get car for a few weeks yet but will post pics as soon as - need to do some prep to make room for car here maybe have to let my Senator go .
  9. About to become BMW driver due to purchase from Brother of 318 coupe S reg dark blue - full soft black leather interior with body mods so it resembles M3 - He paid 24K new and was intending to take it abroad to reside at holiday property but change of mind allows me to aquire .It has been garaged for approx 5 yrs and started periodically - he took it to BMW a while ago to get it back to scratch and cant remember the exact figure but circa £1000 was spent on new brakes - discs - pipes etc etc . Brother claims back box will need changing as he thinks it may fall apart if touched (Most prob still original) Car had new heater rad behind dash a couple of years ago he paid BMW garage about £350 they tried to increase it by several hundreds when they realised how tough a job it was . Car looks absolute mint but is sure to have suffered due to lay up - Tyres etc Brother claims also car will not tickover now (He is not a petrol head) i wonder if its just idle contol valve at fault . Any thoughts chaps and is it poss to get car on classic insurance as thats how i insure the 2 cars i have at moment due to them being aged .
