Tbh Tony, I am wondering if the hole has been re-tapped as I can only find the 12mm 2prong for your motor? Maybe purchase a 12mm-14mm thread adaptor, this would solve it !!
thanks again dabsy i will try and get a thread adapter failing that i think i might change the complete housing.
-
Hiya Tony, yes it is a security feature on the Clifford, you have to put the ignition key in and turn to first position (Acc) to prevent re-arm !!
As for the toggle switches, I cannot say but obviously fitted by a previous owner, try to chase the wiring from the switches to find out if they're connect to anything.
Best I can suggest mate.
thanks dabsy thats a relief, i thought it was just one more problem to sort out.i thought those little switches might deactivate the alarm but they don't seem to do anything.i will check them out later my main prob at the moment is sorting out my coolant sensor.once again many thanks for the advice.

could anyone tell me if my coolant sensor should have one spade terminal or two.(breg 320i series 2 with m20 engine) my temp gauge doesnt work so i replaced the sensor but it is still not working. the old sensor had one spade terminal but there were 2 wires one was wrapped around the other so only one was connected. i ordered a new sensor onloine and was sent one with 2 spade terminals but it did not fit as the thread size was 12mm and my old one was 14mm and no one can supply a 2 terminal sensor with a 14mm thread. i think someone fitted the 1 terminal one knowing that it would'nt work because they could not getthe right thread size and it kept the car on the road.i defo think i should have a 2 terminal sensor and there are defo 2 wires to connect.i am at my wits end with this so hope someone can advise me .thanks

hi all
i have a b reg 84 320i fitted with a clifford alarm (is this factory fitted ?) the problem is when i unlock the car on the fob if i do not open the doors within 25 seconds the car locks itself and the alarm arms itself again. is this a fault or a security feature. also inside the glove box there are two tiny little toggle switches can anyone tell me what they are for.
thanks

Sounds about right... Name and shame that Dealer to me...
Also your last FIVE VIN digits and I'll sort you a part number !!
my last 5 numbers are 95004.
the dealer trades online as wwwbmwpartsonline.co.uk
he was very helpful when i first contacted him but when i asked for a refund because the part did'nt fit he said he could get a reducer , but that was over two weeks ago and despite emails and messages left on his answer service i have had no contact from him.
thanks for your help regards tony

i'll have to keep trying , the dealer that supplied me with the new one said he could get me the reducer but that was two weeks ago and i have'nt been able to get hold of him since.

i contacted a bmw dealership in norwich gave them the details and they said the part was obsolete and they could'nt help me.
hi ,i have an 84 320i and i need a new temperature gauge sensor so i bought one online but the problem is the old one i took out was a single pin although there was a spare wire wrapped round it so i presume that someone replaced a 2 pin with a one pin at some stage. the new one has a 12 mm dia thread but the old one is a 14 mm dia thread so the new one is obviously too small to fit, i have been told that there is an adapter you can get to reduce the size to 12 mm but cannot find out any info on where to get one , can anyone please help otherwise my only other option is to get a complete new housing which i dont really want to do.
thanks tony
i contacted a bmw dealership in norwich gave them the details and they said the part was obsolete and they could'nt help me.Contact your nearest dealer with your VIN number for the correct part... Cheap as chips !!

Hi all
i hope these pics come out as i am a bit of a technophobe.
is this my temp sensor i have removed it as the manual states but what it did'nt say was that there are about 4 differrent sensors on the housing. you can see from the pic where i have removed this one. i only ask because i went to my local parts shop and they could not match it from their parts manual. also can anyone recomend a good online parts supplier.
thanks tony

Hi all
i need an owners handbook and all associated books if poss that would have come with the car when it was new, it is an e30 320i 1984. If anyone out there can help and the price is right (not the £50 someone was asking on fleabay) it would be much appreciated.
thanks tony

If you trust the service record then @3k this belt is fine for another 30k+, I personally hate cam belts and I always replace them when I buy a car (just for peace of mind)...
thanks for the reply, i also hav a receipt from the garage that did the job in 2010 detailing the parts used and the cost £246 so i am reasonably happy with that.
-
Thinking yours has the M20 unit with Cam-Belt... Timing chain arrived around 1988 !
thanks dabsy thats one less job to do then.
-
Hi I have just bought a e30 320i 1984.the service record states that the cam belt was changed at 147k the car has done 150k, i was told that this car has a timing chain (by the seller)that never needs changing. i get confused with timing chains and cam belts so is the cam belt and timing belt/chain one and the same and if not does the chain need replacing as there is no record.
thanks tony
