    Looks like i'll prob have to sell the project as im just runniong outta time and money, will give you guys first dibs when it does up wether it be the parts or the whole thing, oh and the passenger foot well is now welded so no more road watching ha, just a heads up and hope your all well.

    this 1 is where i think you would change the mixture, this is the 1 i think the previous owner touched trying to sort the idle trouble, (middle top right)

  3. ok bit more to my last reply........ ICV at 90 degress this is called a L shape ICV and there is also a T shape ICV around 1988, BMW decided to change the rubber boots, so now if you go to BMW and ask for the rubber boot you'll get the rubber boot for a T shape if you need one for the L shape ICV you'll have to ask or supply them with the serial number from your old one. (found this the hard way), oh and if your intrested

    Rubber boot for T shaped ICV is just under £20

    Rubber boot for Lshaped ICV is just under £19

    straight from BMW, bought one of mine from ebay £24 and its noway near as sturdy as the BMW ones.

  4. gave all that a clean today mate took of the throttle body and everything, used carb cleaner (great stuff) till all was silver not brown then wipped dry with cloth and ear buds, i noticed when i pushed the throttle back a little it idled better so i lossened the screw to make it sit further back (if that makes sense), less air (as above), there are no more holes or cleaning i can do around that part however i did notice a small rip in the paper thing that holds the throttle body to the cylinder head (prob wrong name but hopefully you know where i mean) where the air goes in past the throttle body to the chamber but it hasnt ripped all the way through, ive looked over the forums hense the split boot (think u mentioned that), cleaned all connectors with WD40 and tooth brush, i can honestly say its clean, ive also bought another 2 rubber boots an ICV with bellows, as im keen to sort this out.

    1 thing though when i was cleaning i looked into the hole where you would change the mixture and noticed a clean scrape as if some1 has tried to change it with a tool, having read the forums i wouldnt go near this, also my spark plugs were rusty / orangey colour at the bottom and i read somewhere that means rich running, really wanna do all myself but if some1 has played with this could it make the car idle quicker also that would be a garage fit right???????????

    Now i know there are alot of post ref rust for the E30 but thought id share mine quickly as i was changing spark plugs and oil today to take advantage of the good weather,

    as i was jacking it up (in the right place before you start) the floor just gave way, the mat that covered the carpet looked new so when i moved it, i saw the carpet was soaking wet and thought what the?? the sponge had soaked up as much as it could so there was a little lake on the passengers side,once i removed the carpet there was just fiberglass, think the previous owner had the same problem but negleted to say and just tried to fiberglass the gap... what a horrible mess.......

    Booked into a welder to get a panel on so hopefully that should sort it.

    the car use to idle a bit strange too so ordered a new rubber boot for BMW (just under £19) as mine had a split, which didnt seem to help it would idle high around 1200 then noticed a screw on the throttle body, unscrewd it a little and now she purrs around 800 - 900 revs, have i just covered up a problem??

    i read somewhere that the 325 and the 320 have inter changeable parts, i have a 1988 320i so was wondering if the oil filter of a 325 would be ok to change also if there are any other parts ie from the E36 models that i can put into my project as today ive found how hard it actually is to drive somewhere and get the right part without ordering it first......

    Oh and whilst changing the bulbs for something a bit brighter i noticed that 1 of the headlights acually move (broken screw) any1 know where i can get some?

Cheers Daz, and for all evry1 else whos followed this, i took the air filter out followed by th AFM then the rubber pipes (is that the throttle body) which go into the cylinder........... i found oil in all these parts and the connecters even on the air filter, so wiped them through and now the car sits at 1000 revs and doesnt change as much (just a little), would i be right in thinking it wants to be about 800?

    Not to forget giving it another clean along with sparkplugs, leads and pretty much anything that can be undone so will let you know after ive done that.

    Might be in my head but it feels smoother driving haha

  8. Ok then will check all that on sat round a friends as hes a BM slag, and i can confirm with the AFM unplugged it drops a little but doesnt stall, think we'll just pull every thing out and off to fault find and give it a dam good service as it wa standing for a while.

    Will let you all know the out come and thanks again at least this gives me a starting point.:D
