A couple of weeks ago, on a particularly cold morning I got the 'Low oil pressure.... stop carefully etc' warning. My heart sank having spent a small fortune over the last couple of years on several major repairs. However, I turned the engine off and back on and the warning had gone. This has happened a couple more times and I went to a local BMW specialist. They couldn't find anything wrong but did say any repair if needed would entail lowering the subframe or engine out - 6 hours work. It's happened a few times since but only when the outside temperature is low and never when the engine is warm. The car has a full and complete service history, had £1000's spent on it, done 156k miles and is a 520D. Should I be worried?

Morning Paul
Ouch
Has a diagnostic scan been carried out, a neighbours wife broke down AA arrived ran a scan told her Gearbox has gone. Her car was recovered to our local BMW specialist who rang her and told Gearbox is fine Diff has failed ???
So first who diagnosed the issue if it was an Auto Gearbox specialist then OK
If the diagnosis is correct then consider that your Gearbox is 13 years old (how many miles ?) has it ever been serviced ? The repair will give a fully serviced gearbox with all software updated, a Gearbox service alone will cost around £6 to £700. Also if you like the car £2500 is probably cheaper than buying replacement.

Thanks Dave. Yes the diagnosis has been done by a BMW specialist and you're right it's still going to be cheaper than buying a replacement. The car has a full service history and has done 154,000 miles.

Car broke down at the weekend and I've just been told £2000 for the unit and £500 labour. Gutted!

A couple of weeks ago I was a very silly boy - I spilt water onto the iDrive controller of my 2010 F10. The system functioned intermittently for a while then packed in but then came back to life apart from the fact that I cannot now activate a selection with the control wheel. For example, I may select 'Radio', move up and down the stations but nothing happens when I press the wheel down to engage. Also, none of the other buttons work on the controller when they are pressed to select. Do I need a new unit?

I have just had my engine bay cleaned in order to locate an oil leak. Turned out it was something to do with the plastic parts attached to the turbo however I have 2 pieces left over that the garage forgot/neglected to put back and I haven't the foggiest as to where they go? Any ideas anyone? Help would be much appreciated.
