Cheers Gav , a nice drop had me laughing I already have to pull up on the front wing whilst the wife pushes a trolly jack under .
  3. I have been looking around about changing me hoops on my 03 320D compact . I believe mine to be an E46 alot of the hoops I see are off an M3 etc and I have checked the wheel sticky Gav put up . So would something like these safely fit without trying to eat my wheel arches . http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280734507739?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Got the code took out today my mate introduced me to his friend a non franchised bmw specialist . He also told meit might or might not come back on but a way round it is to plug the vacum pipe that goes onto the back of the egr replacement. All for no cost :)

IT seems with a NOV 2003 build date I am unfortunate enough to have the EML on so I'm gonna price up having this fault code removed fom the brain to not show up again :(

Job done went for a run I know it can be wishfull thinking but the car feels like its pulling stronger now and more importantly no low rpm surging or bog from the off . As for fitting the egr replacement which can be different for various makers this is what I found . When I connected the valve to the manifold first I found the silver pipe did not line up to well but clamped it up anyway. This resulted in it blowing . So I took it off and connected this part first. I then had to use slight pressure to line up the ally heads to bolt it which sorted the blowing out . Total job cost approx £90 and ten cuppas which is worth it for peace of mind and the said improvements . Hmmm what to do next Gav crack on then lad :)

Blanking plates fitted and manifold back in just waiting on the egr replacement, Coked bumged hole in the manifold with this and the coked egr I wonder what volume the airflow was reduced by . In this bit pic at the midle are five brass sleeves that go over sttubs on the head . A word of warning these are actualy in two pieces. when I removed the manifold one stayed on the stub and one fell off to the side of the engine. Thankfully not down the port. The crap scraped out . The coke bunged offendind aricles . Now back in .

I stripped out the inlet manifold today I think it took longer to get the all the ruddy plastic covers off than the manifold. As I said in my newbie post with the lump being unhappy at low rpm I can now see why . This egr which is hard to see in the pic but the sliding rod is so coked up it has'nt been doing its job for a while . So the below is on its way and 4 blank plugs for the swirl flaps which are so manky would never have bee shutting properly, but on the plus side they were that coked up the death screws were never going to fall out  http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150643050889&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Thanks again for the welcome . It appears I have to rip the manifold off to check the size of the blanks as with a Nov 03 build date it could be either size . So I thought why not and sourced this to do at the same time . http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150643050889&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT Not to happy with the low (below 2000 rpm) rpm drivin it feels almost lumpy and today whaen leaving a junction it almost died . Dipped the clutch dabbed the pedal sorted it it does not have this problem first thing when the engine is cold.

Cheers lads, Dabsy is that dump the lot or just remove the two screws and the flap, not that I'me tight but I cor see the point on wasting £50 on four bits of ally if the swirl bodies can go back in to do the same job . Secondl Dabsy keep in case of what

Hi all new to a BMW got a 320D Compact on a 53 plate last week its condition and history was its main selling point. Having trolled the net it appears my first job to do is dump the swirl flaps. I see you can get blanking plates or can you to save the cash just unscrew the flap off and reinsert the body . Cheers all Kes :D
