  2. hi all

wondering if a low battery can throw up glow plug errors on 1 plug? ive recently changed all glow plugs and the module but a few months down the line its showing glow plug code

also if i need to replace the battery would it need codeing etc to the car? and what sort of battery would u recomend agm etc

    Hi Graham

I found a decent 1/4 drive socket set wich is small enough and skinny enough to get in at the two holding nuts was the answer. And yes it is a job that rates 5 * on the PITA list 😂 While you can reach the thing from above it was necessary to get at nuts from below so under trays off and car on stands front wheel off helps (well it did me)

    Thanks 🙏

    Hi Graham

Did this job early this year on a friend of the family's 320d same year as yours. He brought Beru (OEM) Glow plug controller and 4 glow plugs if memory serves £120

He brought the controller following advice from his garage (BMW Specialist) who were booked up and couldn't fit it in for weeks. We had one reluctant glow plug but some heat and plenty of Freeze and Release penetrating fluid and the little devil gave up in the end.

Like you poor starting and smoke at start up now first time every time and he swears it's quieter ??

    Hi dave

    thanks for the reply 👍

do u happen to no where the module is located off the top of your head

as I’ve been reading it’s a bit of a pig to get to

ive managed to find module(beru)and 4 glow plugs ( bosh) for 150

  5. Morning all

while checking the old girl over the weekend (x3 2007 2.0d )

I discovered these fault codes 😱

on a bit of research I discovered that it could be either so thought I’d ask for a bit of advice

Forgot to mention that on start up it doesn’t fire up straight away ,it takes 5 seconds, but not lumpy on tick over, runs fine straight away, once I’ve started it once the rest of the day it’s fine

    Thanks dave 👍

checked again first thing this morning before starting

showed 12.2, no information in service history of any change of battery, I think it maybe the original as well 😱😱

    i

Think i will take it to my trusty mechanic and get him to test the battery 👍

    Morning Graham

Does your service history show any battery change? As the label indicates it is a BMW fitted part, by the part numbers it may be the original so it could well be 14 years old 😲

The Voltage readings seem to show a battery in reasonable condition though at 14 starting current could be giving it a beating. Before jumping in and changing the battery check the engine earth strap and all connections at the starter motor. Magnetti starter motors did have a reputation for pulling huge current as they age so if can get access to a clamp ammeter measure the draw at start. I have seen reports of 800+amps.

    Thanks dave 👍

    Morning Graham

Try talking to your local BMW Dealer many give discounts on parts for older models like ours. Is yours missing ? they can be repaired with gaffer tape or if you have horses as we do Stormsure waterproof tape (rug repairs) is brilliant.

Most of the time it is the adhesive seal around the edges of the membrane which needs softening and spreading where the gaps are

    Dave

started with rear passenger side first, as said i brought some new butyl tape, adhesive ,peeled old stuff off door ,replaced with new ,heated with heat gun then firmly rolled with a wallpaper roller, bone dry after standing with a hose on the window for 10 mins

    cheep easy fix

    thanks

  11. Thanks

think I’ve found the problem 👍

whilst in the middle of a downpour I opened the rear doors and it’s running between the doors and the door card

will as you say remove both rear door cards and see for sure 👍

  12. hi all, had the x3 a few weeks now and overall very pleased,

I've got a couple of littles niggles and wondering if anyone can help?

1/  I've discovered both rear footwells wet( I've read somewhere that poss. membrane behind door cards) any tips please

2/ car takes along time to get to 12 o'clock (temp gauge) when it does it then drops to 10 o'clock ,I've read somewhere again it needs to get to 12 o'clock for the regen to happen? poss. fix would be new coolant thermostat ? also replace the egr stat? which one is more likely if you where a betting man or is there another culprit??

    thanks in advance 👍

  13. hi all , anyone got any secret tips for getting stains out of cloth seats ? I've just brought a 57 plate 2.0 d x3 and reckon a builder used it for a van, even the back of passenger seat and drivers seat are marked

apart from that it drives like new😁

  14. hi all

just brought my very first BMW 😁 last week

looking forward to some helpful advice if needed, ive had jags and mercs  before but my very first bmw, ive taken a leap of faith on a 57 plate x3 2.0 d se,100.000 miles with full service history, looks like a builder had it before as the back seats are all dusty and stained, looks like it was standing under a tree unused for a while, covered in tree sap

got through mot no advisories, and drives perfect
