Hey Russ, I was wondering the same thing, I found it on mine (2009 1 series) if you open your bonnet, look to the left and there is a small gap to which you can see the back of your front grill, you will find the sensor down there, I'm not sure if it's the same on the 2011 model.

Hi everyone, looking forward to enjoying the community here, just got myself a 2009 120d m sport in Sedona red, I used to have an E46 325i and missed it massively! So after a few years I've found my way back to my favourite brand of car 😁
