Cheers for the tip about realoem.com. looks like a good resource. they don't list my abs module though.
anyway. put the old w/s/sensor back on with the old oem module that actronics said they couldnt fix. and guess what? YES! it's all working like new. i can only imagine that there was a fault in the mod then i compounded the the problem with this dodgy w/s/sensor. it must wired in reverse?? fingers crossed, Done 30 miles today, all good. 'maXgear'! should have gussed from the name. i feel a bit foolish. Thanks for your help anyway

What a saga
Never heard of Actronics I have however used ECU Testing and BBA REMAN with excellent results on Volvo, Mercedes and BMW
Have you checked (or had someone check) the loom for continuity? Hate to have you go through the pain and discover its a break causing intermittent issues
Dave
I've had a look at ECU Testing and BBA REMAN web site. looks professional. i'll give them a call on monday. thanks for the tip

i think these modules are fragile. maybe they have an accelerator chip that decides after this much of an impact the car must be significantly damaged. self destruction so the module can not be reused??

That's the mod that actronics said was repaired. and are saying its ok. in fairness the o/s/r fault cleared down with the rest of the fault list but as soon as it got moving it light up. the other controll units could not communicate with the abs mod. ip-so facto! the fault has to be in the abs mod?? I'm begging to bought myself.
do you thing there could be any reason a module on a bmw in the us is different to a module fitted in the uk. same Bosh number, same BMW number, similar model it came from a 730d mine is a 730i both e65.
this is the us module. and the next pic is of how it was shipped. raped in a piece of paper

I'm having trouble with my ABS its has a bosh 5.7 module.problem started about 4 mounths ago, after about 13 miles all the lights came on. A quick test showed a fault for osf w/speed. put a w/speed sensor in and no more 13 mile grace. Blocked out the module and found no out-put to osf. Sent module for repair. told irreparable by ACTRONICS. bought a complete mod and hyd/block (used) from quarry motors, £200. the same bosh number but different bmw number. just fitted electrics and it would not communicate at all, ista/d or ista/p.I also took it to a back street guy who specialises in bmw programming/coding. no good!
bough a module on ebay from usa. same bosh no. same bmw no. Shipping/import duty £105 all in. it had a permanent fault for o/s/r wheel speed.
bough another mod/hyd unit of ebay, same bosh no. same bmw no. £141. it also had a load permanent faults.
ebay refunded me for the usa module. so i sent that module to ACTRONICS. £205 later they say its was sorted.
when i plunged in that module i also lost steering/suspension/odometer. tried clearing down fault codes and was looking good. It lit up before i got to the main road. lots of communication faults to other the modules.I sent it back to ACtronics. They say module is ok.
At the moment, running original module. Just break problems now. it was awful when the steering/suspenion/spedo were also down.
I'm having a break from this problem now. not a nervous break down. but not far off.
any advise would be appreciated
