Morning all, Can anyone tell me what the part number is for this please, mine has a huge crack in it, (picture attached) As you can see from the photo I've tried to find the part number on real oem but it seems to be the only part of the cooling system they haven't put a part number in for. Thanks
  2. You did, but when I initially checked it over it looked fine, I guess looks can be deceiving. Thanks @Greydog I'll defintiely give that a look :)
  3. Does anyone know the part number or maybe where I can get one of these parts its really letting the interior down and I would like to have it looking as nice as possible :)

I feel I finally got to the bottom of this over the weekend. thankfully @Greydog the auxilliary water pump is fine :) So it seems that when you buy radiators from Euro Car parts even though you have to put in your registration number it still shows you two options which both have the same image but are actually completely different, and me trying to keep the cost down decided to opt for the cheaper one, which turned out to be much smaller than the radiator that was previously in there. So I bought another radiator this time the correct size. I also noticed that when I was trying to bleed the system and squeezing the pipe on the cold side I could hear the radiator cap sounding like it was breathing, since this was the only place I could find any air still getting into the system I bought a new cap from ECP and now it is all running fine :) I took it for a long run yesterday and used it to get into work this morning and it feels so much better. :)

  6. Yeah I agree there Trevor, but since they're not too expensive I've decided I'm going to replace the thermostat and water pump just to be safe. Out of interest when bleeding the cooling system on a BMW whats the best way to do it? I know the bleed screw is on the rad but I've seen a couple of videos where they say you should have the front of the car jacked up??
  7. Well I've managed to get a sniff test done and thankfully its all clear so not the head gasket at this stage which is a weight off my mind.
  8. Thanks @Greydog It's a manual car, I'll definitely speak to the garage at the end of my road and ask them if they can test it for me. I'll also look at tracing those pipes from the bulkhead.
  9. So I've finally been recovered back to my house and the guy said it could be a number of things when he was checking the car over he said that the heaters inside the car were never getting hot. I'd never noticed this as I've had the air con on pretty much all the time since getting it as it's been too warm for the heaters. He thinks it could be either the heater matrix is blocked or broken, the thermostat is knackered or ... dun dun durrr the head gasket. He did also say that it could be that I might not have properly bled it yesterday when I changed the rad, so with this in mind besides the one on top of the radiator are there any other bleed crews in the system on these cars? Thoughts?
  10. Sorry, I forgot to mention that I replaced the cracked radiator at the weekend. So no more crack. The pressure cap being the one you take off to top the coolant up?

Well that was short lived... so far I’ve replaced the radiator and fan and this morning on my way to work the car said it was over heating again but this time no steam coming from the engine bay. Given that almost everything else has been replaced I’m assuming this must be down the a knackered impeller on the water pump or a knackered thermostat? But I wanted to come on here and see if anyone had any other suggestions before I buy the parts today. Thanks in advance
  12. Thanks Trevor, obviously this is after I'd given it a good clean down after buying it, as it was covered in muck both inside and out initially. I'm going to hire a rug doctor at some point soon and give the interior a serious clean. The only thing I really need for it at the moment is the dash fascia that I posted about in the other section, but its proving a struggle finding one :/
  13. In case anyone isn't sure this is the piece I am looking for, the black plastic bit with the clock and dials in, if anyone can help or knows the part number (as that might make it easier to find online) please let me know :)

  15. I was wondering does anyone on here have the black plastic fascia that goes around the stereo and heater controls for an e36 316i? Whoever the ham fisted clot that previously owned mine was they managed to destroy it putting in an after market stereo, and as the stereo is old and doesn't have things like bluetooth I am looking to update it but don't really want to do it without being able to tidy up the interior at the same time. If you have one and its in one piece please let me know how much you would like for it posted and also please post a photo as when I've tried to search for these on ebay etc. I only seem to be able to find the ones for the saloon e36's Thaaaanks
  16. I’ve actually removed the electric fan altogether. So I only have the viscous fan now. It’s definitely doing the job I just need to keep an eye on that rad if it springs another leak it will definitely be going in the bin and replaced with a nice ally one.

Thanks for your reply Trevor, over the weekend I replaced the fan, as it turns out my car had an electric fan fitted for some reason, but the thread for the viscous fan was still there so I've put a viscous fan in for now to see how that goes and touch wood it is working fine again now. I also found that the end tank on the radiator had a crack in it so I've done a fix on this for now but think I might upgrade the rad for an ally one in the near future.

Morning all, So it seems the dream didn't last very long, last night while on my way home I got stuck in traffic for a good 20 minutes or so, during this time I suddenly noticed that the temperature of the car had rocketed to the point it had illuminated the warning light. I believe this is down to the viscous fan, but having done a quick search on the internet, I've found that I can replace just the clutch assembly, the fan blades, or both. I'm pretty sure its the clutch assembly that needs replacing but I thought I would check on here first, to save myself ordering multiple items. If someone could confirm that this is definitely what I need to replace that would be great.
  19. Hi all, My name is Lee and I'm based in Leeds, UK. Last weekend I bought my first ever BMW, it is an X reg 316i compact in surprisingly good condition. I'll get some pictures up shortly, basically this car is going to be my daily as I also have an R32 Skyline which is my drift/ project car but that doesn't mean I can't make the bimmer look good right? There are a couple of bits and bobs that need tidying up so I thought I'd register on here as I know from past experience that owners clubs are a great source of information, as well as a good place to get replacement parts at good prices :)
